How to fix chipped paint?
#16
Just got done "colorchipping", can't say I'm all that impressed. I wasn't expecting a magic-pill but was hoping for a much better color match. The paint matches perfectly when brushed on and dry, the paint (at least my kh3 Infiniti black color) ends up a flat black so all the chips are still easily seen. I did 3 rounds of touch ups, so it's not for lack of paint in the chips. When I use the blending solution that removes the excess paint it left the chip fill w/ a flat black not a gloss black fill. Oh well, better than the bright silver undercoat, and it does look better from a distance and probably at night

I tried the colorchip thingy yesterday and it worked really well on my car. my hood looks almost new now
The front bumper... well that's a lost cause since it has 97k worth of chips on it. Looks somewhat better though.

I just bought a 2009 and the front and door edges are quite badly chipped. Good negotiating point for the sale though!
Hoping to get it resprayed later this year or next year.

My method is the oem touchup bottle and a toothpick. I use the pen tip of the bottle to put the paint on the toothpick, then dab the paint on. Capillary action pulls the paint into the chip. I touched up a few chips and couldn't even tell where I touched up.

my favorite chips are Doritos Spicy Sweet Chili. Rock chips suck and nothing really eliminates them. Your just covering up a blemish that cannot be 100% cured without repainting the entire part professionally.

When I got home from my parents' house after the weekend, I found that the dime-sized paint chip on the front bumper had suddenly ballooned in size.
Now it's the size of a quarter. I've had the car for nearly a year and that spot had not changed in size until this past weekend.
So I decided it was time to get the front end repainted. It's in the shop now and I hope to get it back sometime tomorrow... I'll report the final price. I was quoted it would be around $500.
(I'm having to drive a rental Malibu while they do the work. Yuck.)

Got my car back today. Nothing to complain about here.
They matched the paint beautifully. The car looks brand new, now. The repair cost $458. Every dollar worth it.
Kind of a neat feeling. I'd just accepted that dime-sized mark as a minor cosmetic flaw that I'd fix "someday", which for me is something like "maybe 2-3 years from now." Now it's as pristine as when it rolled out of the factory.
