I had someone tell me they recommended against the seats that come with the "S" package because someone my size (6'4", 260) would be uncomfortable over long periods of time sitting in them.

Has anyone had any such experience? Is this a reason to avoid the "S" package?

The person who told you that may be correct. When I purchased my coupe I sat in a few sport models and found the sports seats uncomfortable (I’m close to your size.), so that’s one reason I went with the Journey.

I have s package and have no problems with sport seats. However, I'd recommend you test drive 1 with sport seats and make you're own assessment. i prefer to feel "cocoon-ed in/snuggled" when driving, however, others may not. That would be the best option to be for sure.

I'm 6'2" 285. I've logged 82K miles. The sport seats are indeed less comfortable than the regular ones, I don't know if anyone would question that. How much so is subjective. I've found a 4 hour drive tolerable. I've gotten a bit if butt fatigue at about the 6 hour mark on a long drive.

In my opinion the S package is still well worth it in spite of the less comfortable seats. The extra support is really great for occasional track days. But to me the rest of the package contents made it an absolute no brainer. YMMV.

I think the only really fair way to settle it is to take an "S" and a non-"S" out for a 6 hour test drive each. On a sunny day, of course.

when i first bought my car, i was 320 lbs of pures sexy... at that size, i think any car would have been uncomfortable. Even then, it was nothing that ever bothered me at all. Now that i'm down to 215lbs, it's much nicer lol...

I'm only 6-1" 255 and could feel a difference, have journey seats now and helps on the long trips. Running 20's and KV3's even on the most soft setting the S seats seem to rattle the bones a little more on bad roads too. My journey seats have a lot less miles on them though so that could be part of it.
If you do buy an S and find them to be a problem you should be able to find someone who would be glad to trade to for journey seats.
As for the rest of the S package it all depends on the mods you plan to do to your car and the price point of each car. If your going to put coilovers and rims on, change the front bumper and side skirts, upgrade the brakes then it's a waste to put out extra money on the S. Know your prices, like you can always change a base or journey to the BBK's for between $800-1200 if you do the work yourself and buy used.
Paddle shifters are an easy add on to most G's and again if you shop around can get them for $75 used and it's an easy pnp. Even a new kit with all parts can be had for around $220. Try to figure out what options you really want and what you can live without, it helps if your shopping used.

An interesting thing happened when I went to see the difference. I sat in an "S" and I sat in a non-"S" and they felt the same. I went back to the "S" and noticed it didn't have the leg extension or two switches on the front/side of the seat. Turns out the "S" I picked to sit in didn't have the "S" seats but had the 19" tires, 14" brakes, etc.

I've narrowed down the search to two cars.
* 2011 "S" with non-"S" seats and 15,000 miles.
* 2012 non-"S" brand new.

I would really like all the "S" features other than the seat, that sounds like the perfect combination. As much as I am not sure about buying a used car, particularly one that's high performance and likely to have been driven hard, I'm leaning that way.

Tis true. And it's also was a corporate fleet vehicle which is usually much better than a private owner. I'm definitely leaning that way.

Also, it's $8K or so cheaper. $8K could buy a lot of modifications.

A bunch of people have issues with the tight thigh bolsters. Check out this THREAD. It will let you know that there IS something that you can do about it.

I was uncomfortable for a while, while I was 5'10" 240. Lost weight and that helped out a bit. LOL

I am 6' 190lb, I am very comfortable in the s seat although I just got the car and havent been on a long trip yet. I tried both s ans non-s seat, I thought s seat feels better that's why I got the s package.
