Question Window Tints "Non-Metallic"??? on a 2009 g37 non-nav

I am planning on getting my 2009 g37 sedan (without nav) tinted today.

One place I had inquired with said that they need to give me non-metallic window tint, obviously more expensive... big suprise there....

The guy told me they cant use regular tint because it interferes with the tire pressure sensors, GPS, and AM/FM radio as it is built into the back window.

Is this true?

My friends have regular tints that cost about $100

This guy is telling me it is going to cost $250

Is there any truth behind what he is saying? If I get 18% front and rear tints with 5% in back seat is it going to really affect the radio, sensors and GPS if i get it installed later??? I wouldnt think it would as the window antennas would be on the other side of the tint.

Has anyone ever got the regular "metallic" tint without any problems?

PLEASE HELP!

Since you don't have nav, you can use metallic tint. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. I would suggest going somewhere else. You don't need to deal with "stealerships" outside of the dealership. It won't affect your TPMS or radio.

My car came with tint from the dealership, i wouldn't be surprised if it was metallic to save them money but I'm not sure. I have nav on my car and haven't noticed any issues. Only complaint is I feel like the XM sucks, not sure if it's just the G's design or if it is the tint, but the volume level is noticeably lower than FM, sound quality is about the same as FM when it should be higher.

You shouldn't be paying more than $175 for tint. $100 sounds too low and probably cheap tint.

I just got Ceramic tint for $200.

The Nav antenna is on the roof... tint shouldn't affect it. TPS thing also sounds kinda BS.

even if the Nav thing was true, metallic tint can interfere w/ Cell phone use.....I'd go w/ ceramic

I got Pinacle Formula One ceramic tint. A bit pricier, but carries a lifetime warranty.

price can vary greatly. Depends how they do the tint. Do they do a single cut, or piece meal it? Do they cut around stuff like a rear brake light, or do they remove it and do it right? Do they offer lifetime replacement for stuff like bubbles, or a broken window?

The company I stopped in at was Tint World | Auto Window Tinting | Car Audio Video | Auto Alarms | Auto Detailing | Home Tinting at their fort lauderdale/Commercial Blvd. location.

I saw them taking someone's door panel off to put tint on so I am assuming they do it right.

Anyone have a good experience in South Florida or any company they can recommend?

I ran into this issue with my 2004 G35 - what it ended up being was that when I had an oil change, a little bit of oil was dripped on the engine cover - which resulted in every time the car heated up I would get black smoke into the car through the vents and that smell. Take a rag and try wiping off the engine cover.

I have 5% 'titanium' tint by Solar Guard all around on my G37 (20% on windshield) and I can say that the metallic content is something that you pay more for, not less. The higher the metallic content, the better the visibility from inside to outside.

I had Solar Guard 'Smoke' tint @ 20% all around on my previous G35 and the visibility from inside to outside is def better with the titanium.

I forgot how much I paid but it was around $200-ish. I think ceramic is better than metallic films though, so I would go with that.

As far as interference, I have problems if I have 1 or 2 signal bars on my cell I sometimes drop calls because of the metallic tint but I don't have any problems with my nav, XM, FM, etc.

I've also never heard of tinted windows interfering with TPMS, sounds ridiculous to me.
I would recommend the 'Titanium' window film by Solar Guard.

Ceramic also is more durable and more optically clear then metalized or dyed films.
Ceramic films will not purple like most dyed films or some metalized films.

I'm not sure on pricing out where some of these other people live. Here in the Seattle area, A top end tint shop, using a top end product, will run $400-$450 for full tint (all 4 side windows and rear window). As with most other things, you get what you pay for..... I could find a cheap place for $200, but i'd rather pay more and get a top notch job. Single cut sheets, run all the way up to the bevel of the glass, and a lifetime replacement warranty for any bubbles.
