Apparently, CA allows you to go as dark as you wish on your back windows and back windshield, but 70% of light transmission is required for the fronts. No reflective tinting allowed either... (I'm new here, don't know if I'm allowed to post hyperlinks. Checking now...)

Checked the guidelines and we're able to provide links. So the first link, says 70%, but the second (seems more official, since it's the Highway Patrol) says NO tint allowed. Hope this helps:

meh..highway patrol don't scare me! haha but yea thanks for the links. i've seen the 70% but i'm not exactly sure what % TINT that is...like 20%? 25%?

Window tint percentage is measured in VLT (Visible Light Transmission), basically 70% tint means it allows 70% of light through the glass.

5% is very dark, you can't see in through the sides at all. But you get used to it and I can see out just fine. No trouble from the cops (knock on wood)
