Bought DDM Tuning HID kit, Have question

Just got my DDM tuning HID kit. I have an 08 coupe so I went with the H1 55watt 5000k. I have heard from several people that I should use a direct battery hook up kit to power the HID's and not power them though the stock system. The battery kit is about $20 bucks so no big deal.

Has any one used a direct wire kit, or are most people just hooking it up. I hear that the extra draw of the HIDs could hurt the factory system, melt a wire, ect.

Thanks

I think most people, including myself, are running the 35 watt kit. They make the 35watt kits very power efficient nowadays so that it runs pretty safely on the stock wiring, even during initial start up. I would guess that the 55 watt kit would draw significantly more power, so it might be a good idea to run the battery kit just to be safe.

Another thing to consider is that the fog housing is not designed to handle that the heat and light intensity of HID bulbs. Dont know if you will run into problems in the long run due to the higher heat generated by the 55 bulb. What I do know is that the stock fog housing does not distribute the HID light very well. You have to aim the fogs low or you will blind oncoming traffic.

Thanks for the info. I have the coupe and I though the coupe uses 55w and the sedan used 35w kit. Ill send these back and get the 35w kit if everyone thinks thats the better way to go.

I thought I saw a bunch of people on here use the 55w kit in their coupes??

35 watt set up provides plenty of light, a huge difference from stock when you re-aim them lower.

Shoot, now I am mad at myself for buying the 55w. I swear I had seen posts where people said if you have the coupe run the 55w.

Anyone running 55's?
