Steering wheel scratches?
I am "considering" getting a G Sedan in the Summer, and I have been looking online at a couple. I have noticed that a lot of them have scratches on the steering wheel around the buttons. Is this a common thing or is it just most likely a lack of care of those owners?
From what I can see it looks like its painted white/gray plastic and the paint comes off if grazed by a fingernail or something. I also noticed the same kinda scratches on the door pull. I have yet to see any in person, besides a G coupe which didn't have any scratches that I remember.

I'd say it's common, I have them on a 3 yr old G. Same with the door pull on 08's. You can get the improved door covers that came out in 09 from infiniti for ~$75. You can also get a carbon fiber replacement for the steering wheel to address the agreeably weak material here.

Extremely common. You'll notice them in the 350z's as well. They are painted plastics and scratch easily. The newer G's don't have this problem.
FYI: To replace the door pull trim, it's only 35$ for a brand new piece. If you complain about the parts when you get the car, the dealership may even replace them for you. I bought an 08 w/45000 miles a couple weeks ago, complained before I signed, and they replaced both of those parts for free.

When I installed my steering wheel I scratched it all up, so I decided to wrap it, here are the pics.

But this is all preliminary right now(like to start research early). As of right now I am not working and I'm focusing on school. But if the workload this quarter at school is not so bad, I'll go back to working. And if I'm working I most likely will get the G! I'm actually looking to decrease my note because I didn't put anything down on the Altima(and I turn 25 this summer! WHO HOO!!). Most likely, I'll put money down this time around. Figure I can get a 07-08 G for about the same price I paid for the 07 Altima back in 08($22k), in the coming summer. But I'm looking for a loaded G35S 6MT(as is the Altima, can't take steps backwards lol) so it'll be a tough search. Im pretty sure the 09 G37S is outta reach for now.
But anyway back to the question at hand....... I guess I'll have to watch out for these scratches. I can't believe its painted and scratches so easy. I would think the trim on my Altimas steering wheel would be scratched up also but its not. Maybe it has to do with long fingernails and rings on some fingers? I have neither so maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones.

Dealers will fix the scratched steering wheel and door handle trim by replacing the entire steering wheel and door handle trim. They are pretty generous about fixing it, so if the car has any warrantly left I suggest having them do it. If you are looking at a used G fro an Infiniti dealership you can ask them to fix it before buying the car.
