08 G37s headlights only come on when its dark

Have them set to auto mode and adjusted all the way sensitive and only time they will come on is when its completely dark out or going under a overpass or in a tunnel. If they come on while passing under a overpass I dont know why they wont come on when its twilight and sun has been down for 20 minutes and pretty dark out.
When its low light and rainy out they dont come on either so I have to manually turn them on.

I can also hold my hand over the quarter size round sensor on dash and they still dont come on.

Is there another light sensor somewhere besides one on the dash?

yes. the light sensor for the headlights is on the rearview mirror mount. You can see it from the front of the car.

Random thought but say you wanted your lights to be on all the time (without the annoying chime that comes on when you have the lights in the "ON" position and you happen to be too lazy to turn them on/off everytime you drive your car), what if you just covered the sensor on the mirror so it always thought it was dark?

I didn't know you can adjust the "sensitivity " of the sensor for the auto headlights on feature?

Mine turns on even if it's shaded in the middle of the day.

Incorrect. The sensor is on the front dash. The OP is right about that.

Yep, it comes preset fairly sensitively, but you can go in and change it from super sensitive to not sensitive at all

I'm pretty sure the sensor on the dash is a sunload sensor for auto climate control.

It sounds as though the "sensitivity" refers to light, not dark. Try setting it to it's lowest sensitivity and see what happens.

Just a thought.

I'm not quite convinced that is the correct menu...

the climate control is adjusted via the thermometer in the engine bay. the sensor on the dash is for the auto lights.

if you want to see for yourself, it is clearly stated in the owners manual

I agree with the OP, and this guy, because that must be the 'Convince me its dark outside and I will turn on' setting.

Weird. Mine is ridiculously sensitive on auto. Even on the lowest setting, the sun will still be pretty high in the sky and the lights stay on (when driving out of the parking garage at work). But if I turn them off and back on auto, they won't come back on. So usually I just control them manually now.
