What is this light?

Hey guys. Relatively new to the G and still figuring things out. I always notice this light (subtly) while I'm driving at night. Does anyone know what purpose it serves? The manual skipped over it.

Thanks - Jason

Its just a random ambient LED light that is always on when your lights are on. Gives a little bit of vision within the cockpit. I love that light...not sure why...but it works for me.

I think it is technically a map light, but it's really just nice ambient lighting. I think its off centered to the passenger so they can have some light to see around in the car.

Yup, what they said. We had a GMC Acadia with this option too and it helps to see just enough of your surroundings.

I think its a nice little accent to the interior of the vehicle. It gives you a nice glow of the interior of the car; specially the aluminium trim of the vehicle which surrounds the center console.

Isn't it to illuminate the shifter?

As other have said, it is the ambient light. The 07 sedans had two ambient lights (one on the driver's side too) but I they ommited the driver's side light beginning in either 08 or 09.

I have always wondered about that as well! I thought it was some high tech sensor that detected when I wanted to merge in traffic, and then bogged down my throttle with precision timing.

I searched "ambient light" and came up with 59 threads. The four I listed here seemed the most pertinent.

Ah, I didn't realize that it was an ambient light so I didn't have that information to search for. It's all about knowing what to look for I guess. Glad I know now, thanks for the help.
