Red License Lights; legal?

So I just had a CRAZY idea: red leds for the rear plate. Would probably look pretty nice, but is it legal, or does the law say it has to be white or yellow?

FWIW, I've got 6000K VLEDs right now, have a bit of a bluish tint to them and haven't been pulled over for them yet.

The law says they have to be DOT certified and i know for a fact that in Miami red led lights can only be used for tail lights, or on police vehicles.

In any state red or blue lighting is technically illegal on any outer light for cars

Yep, it's illegal here in CA and I would assume in most, if not all 50 states.

You know, you can tell people what they need to know without exposing your superiority complexes. Did I ask whether you thought it was cool, or whether it was legal?

That's what I thought.

I asked if they were legal. Not if you guys thought it would be cool.

I know what I asked.

Don't post to forums if you don't want comments regarding those posts. Of course people are going to comment if they think it will look good or not ... lighten up. It's not a personal attack on you.

Any other color other than white light is considered illegal for lighting of the license plate.
