Blacked Out Tail Lights!

I decided to black out my tail lights instead of my smoked looking tails.. So I ripped apart from my car..

Used acetone remove to old paint.. Used 2000 grit sand paper and scuffed a little on the tail lights.. Taped up the holes and what not.. Used VHT NiteShade... Did at least 6 coats of black on them.. I wanted them literally DARK DARK, so this is what I got!

And yes I am defiantly getting brand new LED tail lights! By any chance.. Does anyone know what is the correct bulb size for the tail lights on V-Leds.com?

Thanks!

Btw, I have red license plate bulbs too,

yea you are gonna need brighter LEDS for that. Also did you just niteshade it and leave it alone? cause it doesnt look like you polished/rubbing compounded it.

uhhmm you cant replace those leds if thats what your thinking. Just the blinker. And LEDs are never as bright as filament bulbs.

Now take those and wetsand em and then polish them.

California law regarding tail lights is essentially as follows:
Taillamps shall be red in color and shall be plainly visible from all distances within 500 feet to the rear except that taillamps on vehicles manufactured after January 1, 1969, shall be plainly visible from all distances within 1,000 feet to the rear.
Of course, that mean during the DAY as well as night.

Assuming your blacked out tail lights are illegal, and putting aside the saftey issue, are you prepared to have your car pulled over at any time and impounded until they are removed? Or are you willing to take a chance and drive with them with the stress of being caught at any moment? I certainly wouldn’t enjoy my G in that environment.

I used niteshade.. I decided to have that matte look instead having it shiny as the OEM style.

Yes I am prepared to get pulled over with the stress being caught at any moment.
BUT, the majority.. I drive my G during the night time.

Daytime would be the Benz C320 of choice

the problem is your giving every cop out there a reason to pull you over, then they have an excuse to start scrutinizing EVERYTHING on your car, not to mention the waste of YOUR time and possible fines... Just not worth it IMO...

Haven't got pulled over yet.. but there are cops in my area that don't really care about tinted tail lights at all.

All they look for are.. Modified looked cars like hondas at most. or a car with a loud *** exhaust that would speed.

And plus I don't have any modified parts or illegal drugs in my car(which i do not do those).

i don't mind them wasting their time.. i can just text while they do their thing. and plus I usually drive this car at night time only.

But of course there’s always a first time, like the captain of the Titanic who crossed the Atlantic for 30 years without hitting an iceberg----except for that last time.

I would also question how sure you can be that “all they look for are…” I doubt you are privy to any data that would support such an explicit conclusion. Certainly any police officer can for unspecified reasons pull you over for a number of things, including illegal tail lights, which he has every right to do.

And one more thing, before I fade away from this discussion: I find it difficult to believe that you would drive a brand new $42,000 G37 only at night and drive something else during the day. Why, you would have to check sunrise and sunset times each day so as not to get caught in the wrong car. Even Count Dracula had trouble with that one.

Let me see.. 31st of July.. I was heading home from the Casino around 9:00 PM and exited off Mira Mesa BLVD ( since that's where I live at ). There are about 5 stop lights to get to my house..

This was unbelievable! 1st stop light produced 3 cars being pulled over.. Which were Honda Civic EG or EK, Civic EG or EK again, and Nissan 240sx =[.

2nd stop light.. I noticed another Honda Accord with a carbon fiber hood, poped up hood, extremely large coffee can was also pulled over by a CHP( California Highway Patrol). So my friend and I began to notice somethings wrong and all ricers are being owned and pwned.

3rd light.. I see my friend with a Honda Prelude pulled over and we already know he has modified parts such as intakes, straight pipe, exhaust, and etc.. So that sucked for him for sure.

4th light.. A cop tried following me home. Which I have no idea why? Maybe my "smoked" tail lights? In front of the 4th light I can see the 5th light which I have to go home..

5th light.. So I let the cop go first, then lined up next to him. Then my friend started to talk to the cop and asked " I see you guys are busting modified cars huh!"
Cop 1; yes we are, end of the quota. we have SDPD(San Diego Police Department), CHP(California Highway Patrol), and CVPD(Chula Vista Police Department) in Mira Mesa.
Friend; Oh I see, that's cool.. Good luck!

5th light.. Headed to Shell to load up gas, buy subway, and headed home!

Well I drive my G37 to work at 6:30 AM (since its a little early for cops to roam around my route of way to work). I get off work at 3:00 PM and head home the same way I get to work.

If I needed to go anywhere between 3:15(when I am at home after work) - 6:00 PM(school on M, W, and T) I use my Mercedes C320.

When it comes to 6:30PM Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday I drive the G37 to school. Sunset's going down and I can able to turn on my "daytime lights" to have light shine through my tail lights.

And the purpose of this method is because.. I am trying to settle my mileage on the G .. 2010 G, which has 9876 miles at the moment.. NOT COOL!

That is why I drive the Mercedes C320 during the daytime and I drive a lot too!

Hopefully you understood my story

earlier today i was heading to taco bell to eat lunch.. at the light this cop rolled up next to me. i forgot to roll down my windows which was omg'd. nothing happened, I guess Infiniti car's are the only one that gets away

Well, frankly I didn’t understand it at all. Do you think this brief snapshot on July 31st proves you will never be pulled over for your tail lights? If so, I would only suggest you stay away from that Casino for a while until you study further on feasibilities, probabilities and the odds of events that have repeatedly occurred in your favor but that may suddenly turn ruinous when you least expect it.
