Parking Block bumper scrape fix with Lip
Hey,
Just wondering if it's possible to cover up a bumper being scrapped by one of those parking blocks with an aftermarket lip? Will the scrape need to be sanded down and primer'd/repainted before applying the 3M tape and special adhesion liquid?
I read somewhere that if the scrape is eats up too much of the original finish then the adhesion won't work as well so the damage area would need to be refinished? Would it peel the paint during removal as well if damage area isn't refinished?
Would getting a carbon lip be fairly not cost effective and dangerous since it's almost impossible to fix as oppose of a FG LIP? Or would labour cost for repaint/sand be too much that it's just worth it to buy another carbon lip
Cheers

For adhesion, I think the damaged area would need to definitely be smooth and in 1 piece to promote good adhesion. If the paint is flaking off or the surface is rough, then you may not get a very good contact -> won't last long. So it all depends on how bad the damage is, I guess.
CF is near impossible to fix, but scrapes on the top coat should be ok. Even if you're thinking about repair cost for FG, you have to factor in paint too. Depends on the damage too. Hard to compare the 2.

thanks for the tips =)
does the bumper need to be removed if the bottom of the bumper is rough/flaking for them to smoothen, use a filler, primer and paint? or can they do it while the bumper is on since it's a fairy small area but upside down?

If it's not too bad, just surface damage, I think it can be done with just jacking up the car or raise it up a little bit so there's enough room to work with.

All lips will cover it up. Even the Stillen Splitter. Just sand that area so its smooth and wipe with alcohol. If you use the stillen lip it needs a clean area below for 3M double to stick. And if you use stillen splitter buy at least 16 stainless steel wide head(flat inside of head) screws about 1 inch long and install or over 80 mph it will rip off.

^^ Yeah it will be rough if it was scraped by asphalt for sure. Just get some 800 - 1000 grit sand paper and sand only that area smooth. You dont need any fine sanding since it will be covered up. The 3M adhesive tape will fill in the 1/80 of an indent no issues. Just wash the bottom good with soap and water then clean it with alcohol to remove any grime and wax and your all set to put on your new lip!
