Exclamation why is the leather on my driver's side seat worn and cracked already???

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forums. Back on December 29th, I took delivery of a silver 2009 sport sedan with pretty much all of the options checked off. I couldn't be happier, except for the fact that my driver's side seat is severely worn in the left side seat bottom and lumbar cushion. On the lumbar cusion, the leather has already cracked but is not to the point yet that it is really bad. The seat bottom on the left is another story.

With this said, can I fix this? I am tempted to go to the dealer to try and see if they will fix it (because this is wearing far too fast) but I am afraid that they will try to weasel their way out of helping me. With that said, if the dealer won't do anything about it...what kind of DIY options do I have to fix it????

Thanks everyone. Once I get some pics of my car loaded up, I plan to be a frequent posting member.

-Peace

send e-mail to consumer affairs. and let us know if something comes out of it because EVERY sedan owner has the odd creasing in their driver seat. but every dealer will pretty much say it's natural for leather to crease.

the coupes have it slightly better because they have an extra stitch of leather on that sear area.

mine too. I assume that happened because of much sun light.. I've driven my car for 2years without tinting so i guess that's why. And it's fixable, probably around $100~ 150.
what is the color of your seats? mine is grey..

yeah.. 5months and already got that kind of problem, that's terrible..
do you park on street? If so, it could happen very easily especially if your car is not tinted..

if you're not willing to spend $$$ to replace them or fix them...the best thing you can do at this point is prevent them from cracking more. i took delivery last 2 weeks ago, and the first thing i did was clean and seal the leathers. i learned the hard way on my last car - 2005 acura tl. on a side note, have you ever felt lexus' leather? wow...! we've had out 350 for about 2 years now and not a single scratch, or crease.

I am almost **** about all my vehicles and also treat my seats and this still happens in these cars. (i have an S coupe by the way) This is the only vehicle out of seven that is doing this. Hell, the seats in my 2003 Dodge Durango R/T (with suede inserts) still look like new at 70,000 miles! I can go on and on. This is my only sore spot with the G!

So what do you use to protect the leather? I'm thinking of getting the 303, although that mainly does UV protection. Which I'm sure is also important, but I wonder if my tints will do the same thing?

Anyway, you also mentioned "sealing" the leather. Can you give more info? Thanks.

^ I've had great results with simple over the counter Lexol Products. They have a cleaning + protection system that supposedly seals the leather. Sounds fancier than it really is...lol

That's funny because my brothers 2008 G37 had seats crack exactly like yours! We were wondering what the hell iis going on. At the time I had a 08 G35x with more miles and normally more people in my car and my seats were no where near as bad as his. I hope the seats on the G37xS don't crack fast cauz its gorgeous plus I have really dark tints all around.

Is it mainly the sport seats that this happens to?

I also have the same problem (non-sport sedan). I started using Lexol and am crossing my fingers. I hope the seat will last 4-5 years. Btw, how often should I apply the Lexol thing?

Have had this happen to mine twice. There's a thread on it. I had it replaced both times at Cerritos Infiniti.

I picked up my new 2009 G37xS in Dec. 09 as well, and the passenger sport seat developed a large lump on the left seat cushion within a couple of months. The Infiniti dealer replaced the whole seat under warranty a couple of weeks ago with no problem or argument.
