Urgent - Removing radiator cover

Fellow MyG37,

I just spent 2 hrs trying to remove the grille and is in need of urgent help. I am unable to free the radiator cover to access the grille due to the large blue wire that is attached to the cover. How do I remove the the clip from the cover? I already declipped the thin black wire; hopefully this is the last obstacle I have to left.

Thanks

Ray

Use pliers and pinch the clip and push it through with the pliers.

Thanks for the fast reply! Guess I'll walk to buy a piler at CVS. Feels kinda dumb trying to squeeze it with my fingers now.

I got the grille off but now I need advice on how to get rid of the old paint and how to tape up the parts I want unpainted.

1.) my plan is to blow dry it hot and peel it off then use Goo gone to get rid of any leftover (is there a easier way out there?)

2.) how do I tape up the grille since it is not perfectly straight but curves around the front? I want to leave the top an bottom bar chrome still.

This is def not as easy as I thought it would be... maybe I should just take it to the shop lol.

haha sorry its been so much trouble, it'll get easier the more that you do it.

1)just sand it (buff it, dont sand it down entirely) and then prime x 3/paint x 4-5/clear x 3-4

2)just use blue painter's tape and tape up where you don't want the paint to go. its easy to mold the tape around whatever parts you want. tear it into small pieces if you need to

Jesus christ you take off your grille and then want to know how to sand/paint? Why not look up this info BEFORE you try it and not post panic threads. SEARCH is your friend ET.

Actually I did search...I'm asking for additional advice as things are not going the way I thought it would be.

1.) peeling off the old paint was not as easy
2.) I couldnt tape it up around the curves.

I posted for urgent help as I needed to drive the car the next day.

Thanks for being helpful though.

you don't peel of the paint...just buff it with sandpaper and then prime/paint/clear like I said...there should be a DIY on here

how can you not tape around the curves? just tear pieces of tape and put them where you need them.

if you have to drive the car and the grille isnt on it wont hurt anything.

Thanks Hispeed-lowdrag,

I will try those methods as soon as I get out of bed. My post earlier was to explain the reasoning for starting my thread. Hope to get some progress today.
