I thought if I used my Auto Setting, that the City Lights (and Ironman) wouldn't lite during the daylight. Am I wrong?

By referencing DRLs, I meant that I wanted to run the Ironman without having the City Lights on. Is that possible? To run Ironman during the day, and Ironman plus City Lights during the evening? (i.e. Auto setting?)

from what I understand in talking to Igor, the Ironman mod is wired into the city lights...so it comes on when the city lights are on. IE you can't have it on w/o the city lights unless you rewire it

The city lights arent the headlights...they are the little lights under the fogs

If you are driving around at night with ONLY the city lights on you are making things very dangerous for everyone around you

My mistake, I thought the City Lights were the headlights. Thanks for clearing that up for me Hispeed, the whole thing makes more sense now.

If you realywant DRL's, DIY:

1. Put a small piece of black electrical tape over the round sensor at the base of the windshield, passenger side.

2. Leave your lights on "Auto". Lights will come on and stay each time you start.

You will have to manually adjust the instrument and console lighting.

The problem with that is that you will have too many lights on during the day, including, as discussed in other threads, tail lights on that may fool certain cars behind you into thinking that your brake lights are stuck in the on position so they may not recognize when you’re actually braking. It’s best to have no tail lights illuminated at all during the day unless the car in front of you is actually braking.

Furthermore, adjusting your instrument and console lights twice a day is a real PITA.

I have heard that turning on DRLs on the 2010 G37x is a simple computer tweak. I know my old 2007 Ford Edge came without DRLs and they had them turned on at the dealer for me.

I bought my G37 from the 'States and had the DRLs added (to pass Canadian inspection). Had a Nissan technician/friend do it for me. Bought a DRL module ($100) from a reputable local parts dealer (have to give business to a city with high unemployment) and about 30 minutes later, it was done. Not that difficult to install but the friend is a Nissan tech. I would seriously doubt I would have done that job myself since a serious screw up could have costed me a bundle! (Tech wired the high beams set to 1/2 strength to act as DRLs)

Sorry ... I forget which wires were tapped (only the passenger side wiring was tapped ... no need to do both sides).

Overall ... cost me $150 to get the job done right. And all I did was take out the fuse after I passed inspection. And when I sell the car ... put the fuse back in.

Are you sure about the "high beams set to 1/2 strength"? That's not possible with HIDs, aside from the fact that we don't have separate high beam lamps. Our headlights switch from low to hi by mechanically flipping the cutoff flap inside the housing. HID lamps must operate at specific voltage, temperature and pressure to generate the arc.

I assume he wired the fog lights just like the OEM operation.
