Just debadged with Goo Gone Xtreme...

Just finished debadging the letters off the back with some Goo Gone Xtreme (the only one on the WalMart shelf). After doing so and reading the back of the can I noticed it does mention is dissolves oil-based paint and topcoats. Also, I now see shadows, or more like "halos" where the letters were. Will some polish help this halo? What would be good for replacing the stripped topcoat? Mind you I'm not near a big city, I'll be shopping at the local auto parts chain store. I have no special detail tools or equipment so whatever I get I'll be using by hand. Any help would be appreciated!

Thats the ghost effect rear badging. People pay top dollar for that kind of work.

J/k. Just give it some time. Wax and buff and clay the area often. Eventually it'll fade away.

I washed the entire car right after debadging it. Was going to get some pics today, but turns out it rained

To the wax/buff/clay: I hear clay can seriously screw your finish if you don't do it right (and I don't know how to do it right) and wax/buff sounds like a random-orbital job to get it done right (I'm without such tools, or easy access to an outdoor plug). I'd hate to pay a detailer so soon, but a nice sealant might be good to protect that soft paint...

thoughts?

Clay is easy just make sure you use a good detailing spray when you do it.

Clay bar is easy. Just use plenty of detail spray when claying. I think clay bar should help removing some of the ghost effect.

Claying is SUPER easy. Just keep the area lubricated and turning the clay over and you'll be fine. I apply my wax by hand, it just depends on what kind you have. But I'd get some from detailedimage.com and not a local store.

I use this wax Blackfire Midnight Sun Carnauba Paste Wax - 7 oz | Detailed Image

and this lube for claying Poorboy's World Spray & Wipe (S&W) - 16 oz | Detailed Image

and they both work GREAT

Has anyone ever used a clay bar on a black G? If so what were the results? I had a white 350Z that I would clay bar and the results looked great. I have a black G now and am afraid to look at it wrong because you see all the imperfections.

DO NOT USE CLAY ON A BLACK CAR !!!!

Black paint has special polymers in it that adversly react to the chemical makeup in the claybar. If you use clay on a black car, it will destroy the paint and you will have to repaint the whole car.
