Re-Tinting Windows..

how many of you have gotten your windows re tinted before because the first time you think you didn't go dark enough? do they take the tint off then put the new one on or do they just put it over the first tint you got?

I haven't gotten them retinted (yet ) but I am 99.9% sure that they take the old tint off and put new tint on

i just don't know if its worth doing. i mean they have to go down in the window and take it off seems like it would be easy to mess up the window and the tints.

as long as you go somewhere reputable, i think you'll be ok. dont go to the 5$ tint shop on the corner...as with anything, you get what you pay for

any good tint shop should be able to go over the tint you have. otherwise you have to pay for them to remove it + reinstall new tint.

if you go to a very reputable shop, it's a timely process to take off tint. A good tinter spends time to take off all the excess glue from the old tint, and clean up all the windows.

and you can't use a razor for the rear window due to the antenna and the rear defroster lines.

I have had Lumar tint removed and reapplied a couple of different times. When it has been removed it took less than 30 minutes for two windows. No residue whatsoever. New tint applied a few weeks later. No issues.

The tint shop, which did not do the tint the first time, said that as long as you are using good film it will come off fairly easily without a lot of messy cleanup.

I had my front windows tinted from the dealership and had it removed and retinted darker. You cannot tint over old tint, that's jacked up. The old tint has to be removed along with the adhesive, which is a PITA like Kenny said.

A professional shop will do it the right way by removing it and cleaning the adhesive residue left behind before reapplying tine. It is time consuming and they will charge you more than for a virgin tint. I think I paid an extra $20 or $25 for removing the old tint on the front windows.

You can take tint off yourself but it's a tougher job than most people think. I tired it on one of my cars to save $25. I did one front window and then quit. It was worth it to pay them to do it.
