What's up with your tranny? Now that we sorta disclosed that the clicking into place is basically normal

just the rough downshift. It is not horrible, but I figured I might as well get it fixed. There are several threads about this...

I would give this some thought. Some people had it "fixed" and are very unhappy with the outcome.....

There is no going back from that "fix". If you do decide to do it, let us know how it comes out.

Based on his first question, I have not noticed any of this. I just tried while I was out to lunch and my steering column does not move. I moved and checked it several times, but nothing. Can't help with the problem.

This happened to me today. Wheel went down while driving, but it does not move up. It adjusts any other way, but up!

Mine does the same too; however after the steering wheel move down I try lifting it up and then I can actually push it down again. Although the movement is slight. Could you guys try it and see if it does the same on your?

I have the same shifting and clicking issue, (entry/exit feature is on).

Only happens after a DOWNWARD adjustment of the column. NOT related to memory as others have said but any adjustment that includes downward will cause it.

For the people that say they do NOT have it, you have to realize its only noticeable with a SLIGHT amount of force. Anymore than slight will make the shifting/clicking not noticeable.
I was trying to demonstrate it to the infiniti "main" mechanic for 10 minutes and he kept on pulling on the column with all his might and kept saying there is nothing wrong. He was a nice guy though and pushed for a new column.

They are replacing my whole steering column. Apparently infiniti doesnt allow them to touch anything in the column for safety reasons so if anything is wrong they must replace.

There is a long thread on this topic. Do a search for "Steering wheel shifts down while driving". In particular, see my response (hdbrown2) about what the factory mechanic had to say about this.

Had the steering column replaced. Apparently a "$2000 job".

Problem is fixed at this point, although now that I am aware of it i think there might be some shifting and clicking still present. Roughly 10% of how it was before. I can live with it. Will see if it gets worse over time.

I am surprised people are okay with having this present in a roughly $40K car. If it was a corolla i wouldn't mind but you shouldn't have to put up with anything not working perfectly in this car.

I only put up with it because the local dealers are idiots and I would not trust them messing around with my steering column. Some people have gotten it fixed and said the downward shift came back a couple months later. Until Infiniti comes up with a REAL solution, I am going to keep my car away from the dealership as much as possible.

Knishtix: please let us know if it comes back.

I figured I'd recall this thread seeing as I'm having the same issue with the downward movement (I do use the entrance/exit feature). Are there any followups from people who have had any work done to fix the issue or if we are just living with it?
