How do you remove the rear combination lamp?

Greetings:

I would like to replace turn signal bulb with an LED type. I just d/l the full 2009 G37x service manual from ininitihelp forum. The EXL-203 section shows an exploded view of the rear combination lamp and reference to EXT-24, "REAR WHEEL HOUSE PROTECTOR Exploded View" for removal/installation process. Could this be an error? Since the rear combination lamp seemS to be located in the trunk, should the trunk interior lining be removed instead?

Thanks for your time and help.

open the trunk,

pull off the plastic piece off the latch area.
then remove all the tabs in the trunk near the tail lights.
remove fabric now

then, there are 3 nuts for each tail light.
2 at the end corners and 1 on the other side. remove the nuts

then tap the bolts a bit and pull the tail light off.

change the bulbs and put everything back together

nogoodname: thank you for the detail instructions and the picture.

It's a cool tail light that you have. Where do you get it and how much does it cost, if you don't mind I am asking?

DrJones: Sorry, I make a mistake. You're right. The brake light is LED. Only the turns signal need to be replace.

Has any of you read the attached service manual instruction? It's completely insane and doesn't make any sense, don't you think?

Damn that's one good lookin' tail nogoodname posted. But hey, that's my car! Nogood and I did a "group" tail tint the other day and put an overlay over the tails. Wasn't too expensive and good work. You can see the post and details at
https://www.myg37.com/forums/picture...-overlays.html

BTW there are 3 tabs and then you have access to the bulb area; you don't have to take out the light housing.

Did you get the proper resistors to wire in so the turns don't blink fast?

The thing about our turn signal bulb is that it looks good already. It blinks red so its not like you can change the color, I dont get why you would change it to an LED bulb when all that would do is possibly mess up your electrical system and cause the lights to blink faster. I understand if someone changes their interior lights to white because our cars come with an ugly yellow, but Im just not seeing a point in changing out the turn signals.

Mid-life crisis: I just realize that your tail light is for the S. Mine is G37x sedan. Is there any overlay available for the sedan? I went to Techteint web site but I can't find any overlay. I don't want to drive 6-7 hours to Montreal just for the overlay though.

By the way, is your back up camera OEM? If not which brand and model do you use? I am currently looking for one wireless license plate frame mount as well. This way I can hook up just the transmitter camera and use the stock lcd for the backup camera.

No, I am not aware that I would need one.

lakers8: I think I will take your advice into consideration and leave the turn signal alone. I don't want to mess up the electrical system. I only replace any bulbs that are just plug n play.

.
The tail tints are a custom job; no precut overlay available unless you go to bluebat.com who make one for the G. You should be able to find a local installer who can do a custom install for you.

My backup camera is OEM.

Brightness. It's the same reason why people with stock HID's upgrade to 50w HID's. For the brightness.

One of my co-workers got a ticket the other day because his blinkers blinked too fast. As long as you get the right resistors, you should be fine. I know V-Leds.com has the resistors.

If you're switching from filament bulb to LEDs, you will most likely need a resistor to lessen the load on the LED.....I mean, to make it not blink too fast.

Have you not seen our taillights blink? Theyre not some 1980's Ford Truck, they are very bright. Isnt it true that LED's arent as bright as regular lights, they just last longer (i could be wrong)?

I wonder what kind of tools do you use to remove the clip/pawls holding the trunk lining for replacing the tail light bulb? Where do you get them?

Thanks.
