Thats what you get for driving 250mph+.... just think of all the weight you are saving with it off!

Let us know what the dealership says.

Absolutely positive! I was on a road-trip on the expressway, so I would have seen it in my side-view mirror when I was changing lanes. It was definitely closed! I have no idea how this could have happened unless it was slightly broken to begin with...

Wind was the only thing I could come up with. However, my father suggested that it could have been the freezing/thawing of ice/water over the past few days. We've had some pretty horrible ice storms here in the midwest, where it would rain all day then freeze overnight, creating a 1/4" thick layer of ice on everything. I guess there's a chance that the freezing/thawing weakened the plastic enough to crack it?

Other than that, my best guess is wind!

It might be water that was inside of the hinge and froze, thus destroyed the hinge.

I agree since the door opens left to right and therefore would have no force against it when driving forward. Unless the fuel door was open and he was driving in reverse

Wow, crazy stuff. Keep us updated when you take it to the dealership please.

And you definitely have to wear it like a medallion around your neck now.

I'm asking because I don't know, but could someone else have broken the hinge and then put the door back on for you to find?

you know this was my first thought. because you must press the unlock button to open the fuel door. perhaps someone tried to pry it open and thought it did so from the right side instead of the left.
