I went to Accutint a few weeks ago and they said they same thing about Bat overlays being cheap and reluctant to work without better material. They offered putting on their own material just to try it out. If it came out bad, they wouldn't charge me. I haven't found time to go do it yet but it sounds like I would run into the same problem if they don't end up removing the taillight.

The film they use is a thicker material. Would there be any problem putting the taillight back on with the extra thickness?

I suspect they could have cut the pieces better (bigger), but because they're using a thicker material they wouldn't be able to "bend" the overlay around the edges, hence they just cut it smaller so they wouldn't have to deal with it.

Yeah, but who does the paint to tint - a regular auto paint shop?

Any reputable body shop knows how to tint lights. It's just a mixture of black and clear to make it translucent and then the clear on top of that when u get the desired darkness.

wow that sucks. if they were intelligent, they would have used andy's overlays as templates to ensure they covered the entire light. id complain and ask for a refund and have them removed at least. then just move on to another shop. show them pictures if you have to.

So I talked to the guy again, they said:

1) They don't take out the taillights because it would cost me more
2) This is the best fit they could get it because of the curvature of the tails.
3) They're not going to refund me or redo it.

FYI - I just contacted Stage Auto in Kirkland and they are charging $120 to paint the taillights if you are interested.

Looks like there isn't much you can do seeing as how you already paid, and drove the car home. I would probably just suck up the loss, hopefully its not a lot, and try again. i would probably go for smoking it with paint though, overlays are normally pain in the butt.

I bought bat's spoiler light overlay thinking it would fit, but it didnt fit perfectly. I attempted it myself though, so no labor cost, and thats only 10 dollars down the drain.

VHT Nite Shades!!! thats what i just did a couple days ago. i think its better than black and clearcoat as this is more translucent where black paint isn't...and you can pick it up for like $10-13 a can. Its ment to tint-out car lights.

Me and and my friend who works at the local auto body sprayed them the other day but there still dull and now he's gonna buff them out today and maybe add more coats to get to the right shade.
