From Non-OEM to OEM Spoiler + Rear Deck

When I got my G back in March, the dealer threw in the spoiler as part of the deal. Unbeknownst to me at the time, it wasn't OEM. So I recently had it swapped out for the real thing and replaced the rear deck panel to get rid of the brake light for a clean install. In looking at the pics and comparing, the Non-OEM spoiler doesn't look too bad. The OEM spoiler install requires the removal of the chrome trim whereas the Non-OEM spoiler installs right over it. By the way, I'll be selling the old spoiler soon.

Cost of this venture was $522 for the OEM Spoiler plus $177 for Rear Deck Panel Kit plus 3 hrs of Labor (dealer had to remove old spoiler).

I think the Bose speaker covers are salvageable. The hardest part is going to be removing the retainer washers which hold it down, without breaking off the plastic pin. Here's a pic of the flipside of the rear deck so you can see for yourself. The baby seat anchor covers look like they can be snapped out.

Give or take a few $ but keep in mind the old spoiler had to be removed. I could have probably swapped the rear deck panel myself. It looks like there's a couple of fasteners on the front (see pics above) and everything else just slides out. But lazy me just decided to just have the dealer do everything.

Hmm, dang so they charged you labor for removing a non-OEM part, and installing a OEM part that they should have done from the beginning?

Hey! That's what I'm looking to do with my G... how did you remove the rear deck? Did it all snap off or did u have to remove screws? A step-by-step guide would be very much appreciated!

That sucks... my dealer did something like that for me too for my G35. They put it on the "we owe you" paper: "spoiler". So i took delivery of the car, and a week later i brought the car in for one of their outsourced guys to install a spoiler for me. It was NOT oem and i paid 550 for it. I didn't know at the time.. but they drilled holes into my trunk & overtightened the bolts.

That left me with a wavy non-oem spoiler for 550. that sucked.

im glad everything worked out for you

michael
