Sunroof noise question
Hi,
Finally got to try the sunroof for the first time today. The wind noise the thing makes is ridiculous!
I noticed that there is a metal deflector that tilts outward at about a 45 degree angle when the sun roof is open. If I hold the deflector down with my hand, the wind noise becomes totally normal. I have never seen a metal deflector like this in any of my previous cars...
Is this bad design? Or am I the only one with this issue? Your suggestions are welcomed...
Thanks,
Steve

i thought mine is pretty quiet also and the defector does a good job of blocking out the wind on the freeway.....not too windy inside....it great i think

Well, it's definitely much louder than the sunroof in a '98 Accord, an '00 Camry, an '06 330i, and an '06 G35 coupe; those are my reference points for loudness as they're either my car or friends' car which I ride in all the time. And when my friends can no longer hear me on the hands-free except for what they described to me as the sound of a sand storm, that's too loud.

I had an RSX that was much quieter that this, hence my question...
Here is a picture that show the roof open. Basically, the problem is that there is too much space (about 3/4") between the deflector and edge of the roof, so there is a lot of air that goes under the deflector above 50mph, making all the noise. I would be curious the hear from others if the space is similar on your car.
This picture shows the deflector held down, which gives a much quieter ride, but it gets tiring after a while
I had a look and it doesn't look adjustable, anyone know if anything can be done before I try some MacGyver manoeuvre

It sounds about the same as all my other cars to me, and they all have a deflector thing. But yeah it def. does get quiet when you hold it down, up until about 60-65 than it's just as loud either way. Holding it down at high speeds for me it kinda makes a popping noise like in a 4 door car and u roll down one window and it causes a wierd pressure change and you want to cut your ears off. lol
sculhane, man you need to hit that sunroof with some glass cleaner.
