Those who changed bulbs inside... Map Light question...12V8w?
I opened the map lights(where the sunroof switch is) and the bulbs look exactly like the 168/194s that i used in the step lights and license plate lights... BUT the map lights say 12v8w... Whats up with that?
Common sense tells me that I shouldnt put a 12v5W bulb into a 12v8w slot.
Any comment on this?
What bulbs did you all use for the map light area?

thanks guys...
I'm no expert, but imo as long as it's the same voltage, going with a lower "wattage" bulb should be fine, it's putting an 8w bulb into a 5w slot that could cause over heating, blown fuse etc.
Example:
I'll put a 120v 40 watt bulb in a fixture in my house that's rated for a 60w (120v) without a problem...just has lower light output...
It's putting a 120v 100w bulb into a fixture rated for 120v 60w that leads to overheating etc...
This concept makes sense to me, how about you?
HHMMM if the slot is pushing 8watts to a 5 watt bulb I see a problem....
No, I don't think you understand, the "slot" is not pushing anything, the bulb "pulls" 8w and the replacement you propose will pull less=no problems...
Can't you relate to putting in a lower "wattage" bulb (but the same voltage) in your house for example Ben?
Listen to DGCIALP he got it right. I am an Electronic Technologist, and what he is saying is right. there is no issue I but the same leds in there my self. But at night you will notice that they do glow a bit even though they are off
