$300 Llumar Tints are Peeling off!!

long story short:

driver side tints are peeling off from the bottom near the side view mirror. im thinking its because the windows roll down automatically about an inch when the door is opened an closed... and because of this -my tints didnt cure properly.

my theory offcourse.

also, i did pay the dealer to do this because they warranty the work via third party. these are brand tints and i did not expect issues with llumar since i had this on my M3 before and my brother on his 360 from factory..

my luck i guess.

anyone with tints see any truth in my theory? also, its about 10 degrees where i live currently.. can this cold weather contribute to the peeling?

IMO, Bad install. My dealer charges $300 and sends it out to someone who charges $125.

Tints, clear bras, etc. are only as good as the installation. You let someone inexperienced do it, no film in the world will hold up.

bad install - my tinting guy actually had to move the rubber strip at the bottom of the window and he had to invert it, like pull it the other way to tint properly and compensate for our infamous Nissan/Infi 1 inch rollback....then after the tint film dried for 3-4 days I took my car back and he flipped it back without damaging anything...what he did helped tint the g37 properly spec'd to the window...without doing that - either ur tint would have to stop an inch short of the edge of the window (ugly) or the constant friction from not doing that will cause it to peel. So yeah bad install to any G's where the guy didnt take that elaborate detail that my guy did......

and no cold weather shouldnt matter....if anything its extremeley hot weather thats softens the tint and then at night when cooling off could cause a lil peeling...

Actually, the cold weather, especially if the sun is not out because of clouds, will slow down the curing of the installation adhesive. (This will make it easier for the weatherstrip to "move" the tint as the window goes down and up every time you get into and out of the G.)

oh yeah my bad maybe i failed to notice that u got it installed in cold weather...that can make a difference...immediately after tint install - hot sunny weather "bakes in and settles in the tint and cures most bubbles" so if ur install was in the cold that may be an issue....my install was in september so there was just enough sun and warmth up here in michigan to settle the tint in....

I wouldn't jump to conclusions on a bad install. I have tints and the same thing happened to my drivers side, I actually just pulled the whole tint off and am waiting for warmer weather to reinstall. I paid 400 for Huper Optik and this is the best tint shop in MA so I think they deal with the de-tint all the time on high end cars. I don't want him to pull the panel though because I don't want any rattles or creaks from this. I assume he will be able to get it to work b/c the passenger is fine. And no I don't have a 1inch gap on the windows - its perfect.

thanks guys. i've been really busy at work lately but i will definitely call the tint shop by weeks end.. i'll let you know what they come up with. it sux -but thats life. im posetive it was the 1 inch drop of the window that peeled it off. theres no other way. otherwise it would have happened on the other windows too.

who knows. thanks for the comments!
