on that website what would be the model number to the "5 led" that was refered to because just judging form the picture , it does look quite bright, but ill be following ur suggestions to the t, for everything else. thanks

I don't think I have ever seen an LED burn out, except when explicitly trying to burn it out. I wondered about the heat generated by these arrays, and they are quite cool to the touch even after being on for a while. Long enough to have an incandescent bulb burn you. As long as the resister is holding down the current, they should run for quite a long time. We shall see.
That 12 element in the trunk without the bubble cover will probably fall out if you hit a big enough bump.

LEDs have an extremely long life span. One manufacturer has calculated the ETTF (Estimated Time To Failure) for their LEDs to be between 100,000 and 1,000,000 hours.[19] Fluorescent tubes typically are rated at about 30,000 hours, and incandescent light bulbs at 1,000-2,000 hours.
LED performance largely depends on the ambient temperature of the operating environment. Driving an LED hard in high ambient temperatures may result in overheating of the LED package, eventually leading to device failure. Adequate heat-sinking is required to maintain long life. This is especially important when considering automotive, medical, and military applications where the device must operate over a large range of temperatures, and are required to have a low failure rate.

29x5mm was my personal measurement of the bulb i took out. My guess is the 31x5mm mini festoon should probably squeeze in and fit.. (but dont take my word for it!)
