I was going to try the Hella Optilux H1 fog bulbs. I am not looking for any improvement over the stock bulb. I just want to make the light whiter, not the yellow-ish light of the stock bulb. (Of course, this may change after I can figure out how to raise my headlight beam.)

Anyone have any experience with Optilux?

I believe changing the color of the light eliminates it being a fog light. The white light gets reflected off the fog where as the yellowish light pierces the fog. At least that is what I remember from years ago but I could be wrong.

Our fog light bulbs do not emit the old fashioned yellow light. I meant the bulb emits the lower k scale non pure white light which the hid headlight emits. The "before" pictures people have posted the show the difference between traditional light and hid light.

I just want the bulb to emit a similar color beam to the headlight. And, yes, I will also be changing out the city lights as well.

All a fog light (technically, an auxilliary driving light) need do is to focus a wide flat beam just in front of the car. While yellow will pierce fog better, you actually need a yellow bulb for this.

The Optilux is designed to be an auxialliary bulb and will focus a wide flat beam just in front of the car. Simply installing an H1 hid will get you another headlight bulb. Also, most of the H1 hid bulbs are 65 watt and our fog light uses a 55 watt bulb.

How are you guys not blinding the crap out of on-coming traffic with HIDs in your fogs? I take it you also had to add ballasts too since stock fogs are not HIDs. Also, did you use a wiring harness?

I'm going to go with either Ostram Silverstar H1 or the Phillips VisionPlus H1. I was going to buy the Sylvania Silverstar but, it got lousy reviews regarding the durability.

I found a great thread on another forum that's really informative.

So, again, why are you putting headlight bulbs in your foglights?

Cuz like many things enthusiasts do to cars, its more for show and less for use, Unless you have Thick fog where you are at.

Also the people that installed H1 HID Kits, did they have any problem getting the bulbs to fit inside?

I actually installed the MTEC 4350K Extreme White H1 Fog light bulbs and they match perfectly. My only concern was that you can't really distinguish the difference between when your fogs are on, and when they are off, because they are the exact same color.

Best wishes on your decision
