non nav factory radio to factory nav radio swap
Hello, i'm hoping someone on here can answer a simple question for me. i purchased a 2011 G-37X with factory Bose non navigation unit. Can i simply buy a factory Bose radio (and screen if needed) that had navigation and swap in? if so is it a plug for plu swap to the factory harness and does the car come with the factory GPS antenna in the harness? whole goal is to retain factory look and steering wheel controls. What other options are out there? I looked into NavTool and another one but the ratings were so so.
Thanks Ryan

Why?
OEM Navigation is so old tech.
Best to get a GROM unit, now that it has Android Auto integrated. Of course, no good if you have an iPhone.

Short answers:
1) Can it be done? Yes, many have done the swap (myself included):
2) Is it plug-and-play? Absolutely NOT. There are wiring changes that have to be made;
I agree with teahead, though, why? What are you looking to gain? The factory NAV sucks (I never use it anyway). If that is the only reason I would not recommend the swap.
Other members can share in on what options are available.

i have an Iphone and i was hoping the car wiring harness was the same (nav or non nav) and it was a simple swapping of both units. i was looking for an easy and cheap way to add some "life" to an otherwise boring screen on the dash that only displays the Radio channel info.

WELL THAT IS A MAJOR BUMMER. i was hoping radio models from same compatible years would easily interchange. i cant believe they would manufacture cars at the same time with different harnesses (clearly the reason i'm not in cost engineering)

Same car. Different packages. Different options. Etc.
Don't get me wrong, the swap is not that difficult but it can be time consuming, tedious, and very frustrating moving tiny wires around. Just to add NAV it is not worth it, IMO. For me, going from a 2008 to a 2014 system, just having the USB loaded up with mp3 and mp4 video files made it worthwhile. I never use NAV. Or the Bluetooth for that matter.
There are options out there. Just a matter of researching and deciding where you want to go. I am sure some of the members here can chime in.
