G37S Will Not Start - Infiniti Dealer Says "Replace Steering Column" for $3000

I have a 2012 G37S which has been, up until now, the perfect car.

Now it will not start.

When I press the brake pedal and press the Start button, it turns over but does not start/fire.

We replaced the "intelligent power distribution module" with essentially the same result... it turns over but does not fire.

The Infiniti dealership in Chattanooga (hell), with almost no further explanation, says I have to replace the steering column at a cost of $3,000. That is absolutely insane.

Has anyone heard of this nonsense?

Ask them what is in the steering column that is preventing the car from running.

I assumed you paid for the IPDM to be replaced. If you did, and it didn't fix the issue I would urge you to push it on them to get it fixed right. The dealership should not be playing a guessing-game and replacing parts using the customers money.

If they are telling you to replace the steering column there must be some correlation and I'm sure they know.

I'm no Nissan/Infiniti tech, but based on your symptoms of "turns over but does not start/fire" it sounds like a fuel or ignition problem. I would really like to know what the dealership says about your steering column preventing combustion from occuring.

When you say it "turns over" do you mean the engine is actually cranking? Does it continuously try to crank and eventually stop on its own or until you press the 'start' button again?

Asked them to give you the used parts back. It is required by law.

Are you living close to Atlanta, GA? If yes, you should join the Atlanta Gs' on Facebook, and ask them for the 3rd party shop. There are many people in the group that own repair shops which are specialist to the G and Z. I believe you can find some help or useful information from them.

Having a similar issue. I have 2011 Infiniti G37 Journey. When I push on the break and the push to start button, I do not hear anything happening or seeing anything happening except an amber key light on the dask. The mechanic has replaced the Body Control Module and recently the Steering Column Module but still kinda having the issue. As of yesterday, the mechanic and myself figured to let me unplug and then replug the cord for the steering column module. Once I/we have unplugged and then replugged the cord to the steering column module, the car immediately starts. So it appears to be an issue with the Steering Column Module. I have been discussing with people in this thread: https://www.myg37.com/forums/audio-v...e-problem.html

I was thinking it may have to do with an ignition lock/safety type device tied into the column's electronics that must not be serviceable
