Hook Up Aftermarket USB (Stock HU)
What's up !
Quick Question, USB for the stock HU (No Bose)
Is it Possible? Has Anyone Done this?
Reason , I'm a Music freak, Today as I was At My Local Audio Shop, I Had a Chat with an employee about Music Storage Etc. I found a *Mobile* USB Hard Drive ( Passport Etctect) 80gb
I like to have ALL my music with me lol. But Yea,umm How Can I get a hooked up if this is even possible.
Some May say the load time will be crazy long, yes this is true IF you do not partition the drive.
If you partition the Drive 3, 4, 5 times and have a nice Folder Structure on the Drive It Will Load Nice.
hope someone can shed some light on this.

An FM transmitter is probably your best bet. Doesn't have to be this one specifically (there are millions out there) but this is just to give you an idea of what it looks like.

i assume no Bluetooth as well ...
if you are a "music freak" this would be a pretty good (not cheap - $599) option:
Infinity Kappa K5 5-channel car amplifier with Bluetooth® connection ? 75 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms + 350 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com
powers 4 speakers and a sub, offers Bluetooth streaming, and "cleans up" MP3's with audio processing. ... and its Infinity brand.
might be a PITA to wire without having a factory amp, though.

What year is your G37? I was pretty sure that all 2010+ had USB input.
I think it will only read MP3 and WMA. FLAC, AFF, etc will not work.

"USB Connection: GROM-USB3 car stereo adapter connects your USB 2.0 device such as flash drive, external hard drive or mass storage device to the stock stereo in your car. You can control the playback through your car stereo or steering wheel controls."

It is a safe bet that you won't be able to add USB to your factory head unit unless your unit has the port for the USB harness:
I just completed swapping my '08 Bose NON-NAV with a '14 Bose NAV from a Q60. Even if your head unit has the port, a special cable is needed to connect the USB port in the center console to the head unit. I finally found one off eBay as this cable is not available from either Infiniti or Nissan parts. Green connector to the center console, Blue to the head unit:
That said, the Nissan USB system is very fussy. There are limits as to file types and sizes. My car won't read a 64gb memory stick no matter how it's formatted but a 32gb stick works flawlessly. I'm not sure a hard drive will work no matter how it's partitioned but others more knowledgeable in IT stuff may chime in otherwise.
Hope some of this helps but I think aftermarket might be your best bet.

just get an old iPod/iPhone, a USB Bluetooth stick, and a 12V USB cig adapter. plug Bluetooth stick audio out into AUX In. use vent-mount for iPod.
