Blown mid on Bose system suitable replacement?

Hey guys so I think I blew the mid on my passenger door in my coupe based on the rattle it's making. Looking to see what you guys recomend as a suitable replacement? It is the Bose system. I understand that we have a 2ohm system but would I be wrong in thinking that a 4 ohm speaker would be ok to put in there since the amp would only have to work half as hard to power it. Or is the system more complicated than that?

Are you talking about the 10" in the door? The 3" tweet/mid by the door handle? Or do you have a three way set up?

A 4 ohm driver will work. A lot of factors come into play when talking about speakers. a 4ohm speaker with high efficency will be "louder" than a 2 ohm driver with low efficency on the same amp.

Haven't had the issue, but I would imagine that you're extremely limited in what to use. Bose is infamous for making their systems only work with other Bose products.

It's the 3" mid by the door handle, that's what I'm worried about is some weird Bose only speaker having to be used. I have no problem throwing a $40-$50 mid in there I just don't want that to mess up the amp some how.

Those are nice and like you said they open up a ton of options. Now the big question remains will the Bose system be ok with any speaker or will it fry if I put something nice in there?

Any 2 ohm,4 ohm, 6 ohm, 8 ohm, or even 12 and 16 ohm will work.

Find a high efficiency tweeter/mid to fit in there.

The problem you might run into is that the new tweeter will probably sound way better than the Bose tweeter. That may or may not be an issue you will have to deal with.

Thanks man! I can live with the new one sounding better than the Bose after all it's got to sound better than the blown rattle that it's making now.

It won't fry the amp, I ran some ScanSpeak Discovery drivers in the doors for over a month with the standard Bose amp. That was back in my naive days when I thought a simple speaker upgrade would help that sorry sack of Bose crap. There will be some serious imbalances though as others have said. Speaker impedance, frequency response and efficiency are going to make it sonically obvious that "one of these things isn't like the others. Sorry I don't have my original speakers from the doors or Id send you a replacement

Thanks for the info. Now just trying to decide what I want to go with. Not sure if I want to buy Something premium or go cheaper and test it out first.

Yeah I saw some on eBay both the mids and tweeters for around $35 I'm just a little cautious on those since they're used and no way to tell prior to purchasing if they are in good working order.

if they say they are working in the description they should work.

If they dont, make an ebay claim and get your money back.
I've never had an issue with a seller that has more than 200 ish positive feedback

Yeah that's true, after all it's only $35 not like I'm buying a turbo kit or something.
