When playing podcasts from my iPhone 5 over the USB cable, certain podcasts will play for 10 seconds, and then the car's screen will jump down to the next podcast, where the same thing happens. If I start the podcast using the phone, the podcast will play straight through on the car's speakers, as it should.

The next time I plug in and try to play the same podcast, starting it with the dash controls, it will once again start at zero and jump to another podcast after 10 sec, even though the elapsed time indicator on the phone remembers where I left off. Rebooting the phone makes no difference.

Any ideas?

Try resetting all settings on your iPhone from settings-general-reset-reset all settings. Does the same thing happen with music?
