MirrorTap vs InvisiCord... Micro vs Nano
I've been researching radar detector mounting/wiring solutions for the V1 + BlendMount. I've searched the forum and found StealthCord, InvisiCord, and MirrorTap. I've seen that StealthCord was popular, but that they've closed up shop recently. So I'm down to MirrorTap and InvisiCord... I haven't seen a direct comparison between the two. Has anyone used/tried both? As far as I can see they function the same but the MirrorTap has a braided cord vs the plain/flat telephone line on the InvisiCord. Also, the standard length of MirrorTap is 9" vs InvisiCord 8". MirrorTap has a standard inline fuse, while InvisiCord's fuse is an optional upgrade. I'm leaning towards the MirrorTap despite the fact it is more expensive... unless someone can convince me that the InvisiCord is a better option. Any thoughts or suggestions?
I also noticed a few MirrorTap options available. From what I've read, the connector on the G's rearview mirror is very tight. Folks recommended using the micro-sized (.050") connectors. Looks like that's the MT-2000 Series cord. However, the MT-3000 Series with nano-sized (.040") connectors is also available, but I haven't seen anyone on the forum mention them. I'd imagine the taps would be easier to install, but could they be too small to function properly? Am I better off with the micro size?

I think you are looking into this a little to deep
this is basically two very small wires with a rj45 connector
its not a cold air intake or wheels
I bought an ebay kit for $10 and it still works. Just make sure the kit has the smaller prongs

Ok, so for those interested, I contacted the manufacturer and they confirmed that the MT-3000 cord with nano-taps (0.040") will also work in the G37. I've seen some folks here say that the micro-taps (0.050") are still a tight fit and some force is needed to insert them, especially in 2012-2013 models since I guess the mirror connector is smaller. Get the MT-3000 Series cord instead to make it a little easier. It may still be tight, but I'd imagine it would help a little. I'll report back with results once I install everything. I know, I know... way too much effort for a small cord...

What do you mean by unclip the retention fastener? The instructions say to release and remove the connector from the back of the mirror, then insert the taps. Did you take apart the connector before inserting them?

Indeedy I did. It's hard to describe, I'll take a pic later. There is a black piece and a white piece to the connector. If you look, the white piece simply clips into the black piece and holds the wires in place. If you look, there is a ledge on the "top" of the plug that you can use to lever the white piece off the black piece. This can be done with a screwdriver, but I just used my housekey. It popped right out, I insert the tap, and squeeze them back together until they clicked. It's nice and secure, and I didn't bend or damage anything.

I see. I thought the connector was solid. Well, if there were no issues with putting it back together afterwards, then I guess that works. I'm just wondering if the nano is still a better fit in general for our cars though. Alrighty, thanks.

GoFightNguyen, I found your DIY thread for hardwiring the radar detector. I thought what you said about separating the connector sounded familiar lol. I'll just stick with the micro taps since they are recommended and separate the clip as suggested. Thanks.

Follow-up
I ended up getting the NANO 0.040" taps after all. The taps fit perfectly snug in the mirror connector. I guess the 0.01" difference does matter, because it was not necessary to separate the two parts of the connector at all. No fuss, no excessive force needed. I just had to wiggle the taps a little to find an opening, but they both pushed right in with no problem. By hand too, no tweezers needed. Good product.
I bought the MT-3009 cord. 9" is more than enough for a unit installed with a mirror-mounted solution.

jms200, i should have listened. i e-mailed bendmount with pictures of my 2010 mirror (inf-001) and they recommended the 0.05" MT-2009. my mirror is the auto dimming and garage door opener only. only has three wires, gray, black and brown.
thanks to go fight i was able get the pins in easily by opening the connector.
i connected black to black and red to brown.
