Stock stereo + Amp?

I am in the final stages of buying my G..can't freaking wait. My quick question is has anyone here (did search but didn't find) just amped the stock head unit and added subs? I have two amps, 2 subs and will probably replace the interior speakers eventually...but should I bother or replace it with an aftermarket unit?

When you say "aftermarket unit" do you mean the head unit? If so, I feel safe in saying the consensus is to leave the head unit intact because 1) removing/replacing it is a major pain and 2) finding a replacement that will fit and not require a ton of customization will be difficult.

As far as amps and speakers, you first need to know whether the G you're buying has the "premium" (Bose) system or not. Everything else hinges on that info.

you can easily bypass the Bose by tapping into the rear of the head unit

same if you have the base head unit also

You need a line out put converter of some type.

Pretty easy install in these cars

Its got a Premium package for sure...the car is fully loaded. So good to know, I thought it might take a bit much to mod that center dash which I did not want to do. I can just have the stock stereo amped and add my subs and interiors..awesome! Thanx guys

I added in a powered sub into the trunk. The rest of the sound system is stock Bose.

good to know. Hows it sound Keg? I have read about other people complaining about the sound quality of the stock stereo. I have 2 12" Diamond Audio subs and a 1000 watt alpine amp. I have a smaller 600x4 amp for interiors if I need it. Hmm...wonder if I can amp the bose speakers off that 4 channel or should I just replace em. IDK...need the damn car first! LoL

I'm very happy with mine. It's a Rockford Fosgate 600 watt 10 inch powered sub. It's not huge and sits right against the back seat so I don't lose my trunk space. I've got 3 kids so I needed to maintain the space for runs to Costco, sports equipment, etc.

I'm not a Bose system fan but the G's system is better than other Bose systems. The Bose system in our QX is nothing to write home about at all. It's typical Bose- no highs/no lows- must be Bose. I've never touched the QX56 b/c it's the wife's truck and if I'm driving it, the whole family is with me and I'm not rocking out. The upgraded B & O system in the Q7 is fantastic. Wonderful highs and mid-range. The low end doesn't hit hard on rap/hard rock, but it does the job on everything else. I've never felt the need to do anything to the Q7.

My G was definitely missing the low end so the sub has completed the sound field. I love having the volume control for the sub so I can instantly adjust the boom level. I used to love spending $$$ on my car's system but have gotten away from that as I get older. I couldn't not tinker with the G though and am very happy.

I got the RF P300-10. It definitely does the job. Since it won't stand up straight in the back (I measured wrong lol) I wish I'd gotten the 12". If it's laying down anyway might as well go with the 12". Regardless it was def the right choice for me. Easy install, all in one package.

I believe that's my model as well. The 12 inch probably would sit up better since it'd come closer to top of the trunk.

So you think one 12 or 2? I have two but I could always sell one off...I am not a kid anymore so I don't need to be heard a mile away. But I do want some good bass with my music.

My 10 hits plenty hard for me. I barely turn it past 4 on the bass control and I'm more than good. Two 12's would be overkill IMO.

Do you have a link to wiring up an amp and sub into a non bose system? I have a 2010 G, I already have an RF amp with an R1 12" sub, but what about this output convertor?
