Finally some inspiration for that next mod
I'm one of the few without NAV, and without anything other than the RCA jacks. So my setup is pretty lethargic to say the least. I've been contemplating a way to relocate the factory info screen so that i can mount a Nexus 7 or another type of main unit in the empty spot between the vents. The first little speed bump was wether I could extend the wiring harness for the screen...
Alas, I have found someone who has a clean setup like I visioned. That is the factory screen in the cup holder area. I may put the screen somewhere else, but atleast I can see how this looks.
Stay tuned..

I need to get all the parts first, this may turn into a winter project, since i work to much. I can get a nexus7 for around $150, ive heard alot of good things about there offline navigation, music (i currently have itunes, but will convert if needed), bluetooth streaming, using your phone as a hotspot for the nexus to have internet..on the road...and a butt load of other cool things to do with a nexus.
Everything else is just wiring, butt connectors(i want to make it reversible), some other miscellaneous items for mounting and ease of operation.
Need to build an enclosure for the info screen as well.
Nothing a 12pk of Miller can't handle in a good weekend or two.

I should give credit to who did the work in the above photo, 201 Motoring, New Jersey/New York area. I should give them a call, maybe they can make that enclosure and send it too me...that would be sweet.

Update*******
Started working on my Nexus 7 install. Here are some pics of the layout.. yes it is off center, because it is not mounted yet..
Here is the OTG cable for the Nexus 7, allows USB input
Still to come....
-I have a 4 port USB hub for the blue tooth trackball mouse/2.1 amp car charger/external hard drive
-I need to fabricate some sort of restraint for the tablet, i have notched the inside of the passenger vent to accommodate the protruding OTG cable and 90degree headphone jack
As far as usefulness here's what I'm doing..
-Aux input for sound
-Tablet turns on with car, stays awake while charging(developer options)
-Goes to sleep mode 15sec after car is turned off
-Planning to use my phone as a tethered internet source for NAV/Browsing
-Blue tooth trackball mouse to be fixed just behind shifter
-I've realized that I do not need my stock screen, basically the only 6 radio stations I listen to are on preset, i control my HVAC still, i can see MPG's and miles to empty via cluster... so for now atleast its not a priority to relocate at this time.
More to come...

install pics..
Vent notched to accommodate OTG cable:
You'd be surprised as to how tight the tablet is being held by these rubberbands (temporary):
Unless your shining a light down my vent, you will not notice this and the air flows well, will most likely use thermal tape on inside to seal:

New installed pics:
-Here is my dashboard app in night mode(auto sets itself based on time), RCA's hooked up and hidden, sound quality is awesome, the N7 music app comes with an equalizer.
-Here is a pic of the system turned off, as it would when the vehicle turns off(need to put the lower trim back on)... looks OEM, hope to deter theft.

Might do something similar, but will be utilizing bluetooth instead of running a cable. I plan on stuffing a belkin Bluetooth in my center console and never having to look at it again. My Galaxy 3 auto connects to it and begins streaming pandora.

Right now, I dont really need it. If I was going to relocate I would use the sunglass holder area-just remove the flip down and place the screen there on a slight angle facing down. Thats alot of work I dont want to jump into this season though.
