Escort 9500ix problem

So I recently purchased (less than 45 days ago) the 9500ix, blend mount and stealth cord. I'm pretty careful with it and take it out when the car is parked for any amount of time. When connecting it back up, I always make sure the power is off before connecting the power plug...and it's never been dropped. So here's the problem, last night on my way home from work the laser warning would NOT shut off. It started immediately after turning on the power (when the car was parked) and continued while driving. I tried resetting it, cycling the power, unplugging it...nothing. But here's the thing, if I take it off the blend mount and let it hang by the stealth cord facing forward the laser warning continues, but if I point it towards the passenger side of the car it stops.

I've never even heard of such a problem with this thing. Is my detector possessed? Broken?

Any suggestions?

is this only when you are parked or all the time

some vehicles like Volvo / Mercedes / Audi use lasers to detect when a car is to close.
This is what usually sets mine off in traffic.

What other devices are in your car?

Have you contacted Escort about your problem?

It was constant while driving and parked.

I did contact escort this morning. Told them the story, and also said that it only happens in my G, not in the wife's rogue (suction cups and supplied power cord). The tech said it sounds like the stealth cord I got with the blend mount is bad somehow. He said he doesn't (and neither do i) think it's a bad unit because it works in the wife's car flawlessly.

They're shipping me out a new cord. I'm not hopeful it will fix the problem, but we shall see.

You and I both know this isn't gonna fix it! Well I know for sure! (nothing is wrong with your detector)

Your own question narrows down the possible answers significantly. There is obviously nothing "wrong" with the detector. When it happens in one car and not the other, and in the one it does, it only happens when pointed in certain directions; obviously this means the car is setting it off. Exactly why, is your next problem to figure out now that a faulty detector is ruled out. I also had a detector (other brand) in my 08 G37 coupe with the tech package (laser for the cruise control distance thingy) and I was having similar problems. I finally just re-programmed the unit to turn off the laser detecting. I wasn't running any laser shifters so I didn't see the point anyhow. If we can't scramble that first laser hit and immediately slow down after speeding & turn off shifters, a ticket is virtually and imminently predictable, making the laser detector feature more of a "ticket detector" to let you know a couple minutes early that you're possibly getting a ticket very soon.
They rarely use laser in my area and I know most all of the areas where it's used around here. It's nice to know that their lasers can't be used accurately on the go, the way that radar can be used in their vehicles traveling in the opposite direction...

So this is a known problem with the 9500ix and G37. The laser sensor is being interfered with by the navigation screen. Most people having this peoblem has the dector mounted under the rearview mirror. Getting a new invisicord will not solve the problem.

You need to call escort back and request a filter to be added to the sensor. Tell them that there is a known interference from G37's display screen. They will ask you to send in the unit and they will make the modifications.

I've had my 9500ix in the G37 a number of times. I don't use a suction mount, but do have a bean bag mount (pretty sturdy actually, doesn't move around, even under hard cornering). No such laser alerts. I'll usually have it in the center of the dash, over the center speaker.

ymmv

Yep, I know. But this is what the tech is doing as a first step.

I didn't know that this was a common problem. Has this been done before? Ad what will this mod filter do to the detectors capability?

Every time I think of the bean bag mount, I think of that old plaid bean bag ashtray that my grandmother used to use while babysitting me when I was a kid.

I'm beginning to think I should have gone with a V1....or do they have these problems too?

all radar/laser detectors have their plus and minuses.

I have a V1 and have no problems. I also do not have navigation or adaptive cruise control.

I ran a n escort 8500 x50 a few years ago and never had a problem

I get the same thing out of my 9500ix when the headlights are on and reflecting off of anything. If I am parked in the garage and start the car the lights reflecting off the wall set off the laser detector. Chrome bumpers of other cars in front of me also cause the same thing to happen, basically, any time the headlights reflect back off of something the laser alert is triggered. I have never had this happen with the headlights off. I also have the blend mount and cord. Because laser guns have a relatively tight beam (espceially compared to radar) the dectors are very sensitive in an attempt to detect small amount of laser energy. There seems to be enough energy in the HID headlights to trigger the detector.

Several other members and I have gotten the fix. I have had 0 laser false alarms since the filter was installed. I cannot speak for the effect on laser sensitivity. I have not run into any laser guns in the east coast.

My windshield wipers in my old SVT Focus set off the laser band on my 8500 x50 several times. I never figured out the problem, I just disabled the laser band. I've had the same 8500 for 10 years and it's still kicking.

I have the V1 and the laser alert does go off at night if you place the detector close to the navigation screen. However if you mount it anywhere on the windshield or the rear view mirror it will not go off. So basically the V1 won't give you laser alert unless you take it off the mount and point it at the navi screen.
