Sub rattling Trunk Problem?

As I was coming home today a car next to me has his bass thumping and I heard his trunk rattling so bad that it left a bad impresion of his car.

Im looking at adding a 10" or 12" sub and am worried about this happening in my car. Has anyone had issues when adding on of these sizes?

The volume **** on your head unit can prevent this phenomenon.

Where's the fun in that.

Op...Personally, I think you should turn it up until you either can't hear it anymore, or hearing loss is achieved.

Sound dampening is a really good idea too. (laughed and thought of you Jeremy typing out this sentence)

The fun in that is in listening to whatever music you personally like at a volume that doesn't force people outside of your car to listen to it too. Bass in your car = good. Outside bass = bad.

OP stated that he doesn't want to sound like one of those machines that you can hear rattling. Sound dampening, a good install, and turning the volume down a little bit will accomplish this. With a 10" or 12" or whatever you want to run. If its loud and powerful enough it can rattle the trunk. Or you could turn it down a little and have the appreciation of everyone else around you.

On a more constructive note, does anyone have any idea how much square footage would be required to dynamat out the trunk in a sedan? I'm specifically talking about two scenarios:

1. Square footage required just for trunk lid and rear deck.

2. Square footage required to dynamat out entire trunk.

My guess for Scenario 1 would be 10 sq. ft , not sure how much for entire sedan trunk though my guess would be maybe like 25 sq. ft? Any input would be appreciated.

You dont have to cover the entire trunk like a blanket

Installing a CLD Tile

im not sure where the "cover my car with as much dampner as possible" came from but you dont have to do it that way.

As far as the OPs question.
You really wont know until you put the sub in your car.
My G35's trunk rattled with just a 10" sub in a sealed box with 500rms.
It got really nasty when I put in a Tc sounds LMS-r

I used damplifer pro and it helped. Very hard to get rid of 100% of the rattles when you install a high powered sub. If you are planning on running around 500rms or less I woulndt buy anything until the equipment was installed.

A lot of people forget about the license plate too. If you have a high powered sub your license plate will probably rattle the most if its not screwed in tight. If its as tight as it will go then you can add the sound dampers behind that as well.

My trunk was rattling BAD on my old car and just that one fix got rid of most of it.

I was at a site walk and there was a very nice MB in the parking lot with the music and the bass cranked. His trunk lid was flexing he had it so loud...............what ever. Another case of money doesn't buy you brains. Hope he still has money for those hearing aids he's going to need soon.
