2009 BOSE compared to 2003 BOSE - disappointed

Hello I recently upgraded my 2003 G35 sedan to a 2009 G37 sedan. Both have the premium package with BOSE. In short, I'm really disappointed by the performance of the radio in my 2009 compared to the 2003.

Specifically, the bass seems to be too filtered/suppressed on the 2009. Yes I have the bass equilizer turned all the way up and have verified that the subwoofer is working. If I take the same CD and play it in my 2003, it is MUCH richer on the low end to the point where I need to turn the bass down. The mid range is fuller on the 2009 but not worth the sacrifice in low end.

Have others noticed this issue? Is there a way to pump up to low end beyond maximizing the bass in the bass/treble settings? Is something wrong with my system?

The BOSE system in my wife's 2008 CX9 even blows away my 2009 G37.

Thanks,
Brian

I installed a pioneer 930 xbt head unit in my 03 Explorer and it sounds a hundred percent better than the bose system in my g.

Welcome to MyG37

Many owners complain about the sound and many don't. You usually hear more from the negative side of the coin.
There are a lot of threads about it here and on G35driver

The Bose sound system in sedan doesn't provide enough clarity and crisp bass! The louder you turn it up, the more distorted it gets.

How many more of thesde threads need to be on here? Also make sure you find your way through all the settings, including the drivers sound stage and try different things before you pass judgment. Many find that after they figure out the settings it's not as bad as they thought.

Idk, I really like the Bose system in my car and this is coming from someone that always has had custom sound systems in my last cars. I had to play around with the settings to get it just right but after that it was perfect for me.

Guess everyone has their own preferences in sound systems but I feel this system is superior to a lot of cars I test drove before this one.

One thing I've noticed is that Music Box audio sounds the best in my car (2011 G37s 6MT). It provides the richest sound from top to bottom. Connecting my iPhone via the USB interface is 2nd best, music starts to flatten out, highs aren't there are much and not as much low end. 3rd would be the Bluetooth audio. It's super flat, almost radio (AM) guality. I've never put a CD in and listened, so I can't comment there. I also listen to only AM sports talk if I have the radio on.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed the differences. Possibly they have seperate audio settings and music box is set the best.

I ended up turning off the center channel and removed the driving volume thingy (the faster u go the louder it gets thing).

I've noticed it's louder and the bass is better.

May wanna try it to see if that will do it for you.

But I agree....for the money we pay for the Bose syste,...it's definitely lacking in certain areas

Thanks for all of the feedback and additional info. I'll dive back into the settings to see if I can make it better. Wasn't aware that it was a touchy subject.

It's not that bad but compared to the BOSE system on my super early 2003 (built in Jan 2002), it really lacks low and mid range bass. I expected the 2009 BOSE to be as good or better which has been my source of disappointment.

I think the Bose in this car is one of the better ones in the auto industry. I really like it personally.

Bose, as my audiophile friend likes to tell me, is the "high end of the low end" when it comes to speakers.

They're good. Not great.

If you'd like to hear great speakers, you should listen to some Bowers and Wilkins. http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/

I'm old and my ears are shot anyway so I'm hesitant to dump a lot of momey in a system. I ended up getting the Infinity Basslink tomorrow to fill the lower end. It relatively cheap, has a small footprint, ans usually gets decent reviews.

bose system

i followed a car audio install online for a g37 where the installer had a real time spectrum analyzer that he hooked up to the head unit on a g37. it showed that the head unit only decreased the treble or bass that was sent to the bose amp so any increases in treble or bass are done by the bose amp.

i looked at the graph on a 3sixty that i installed it showed that at higher volumes the bose amp eq's the treble and bass that the speakers receive to lower amounts. that may be the reason that bose systems seem like they lose detail and dynamic range when played at higher volumes.
