i looked at the graph on a 3sixty that i installed it showed that at higher volumes the bose amp eq's the treble and bass that the speakers receive to lower amounts. that may be the reason that bose systems seem like they lose detail and dynamic range when played at higher volumes.

you summed it up.. I totally agree with you

I have Blows in my 2006 corvette as well, and it is no better than in the G. There are better systems out there for certain.

As for a stock system, The BOSE in my G is superior to most in my opinion. I always get asked did I upgrade my audio system. I just dont like the front staging. Im used to a more even sound throughout the car but it seems like its lacking in the rear. I found that amplifying the music via my laptop makes i sound better. Ill most likely be putting another subwoofer in an attempt to even out the sound.

If we pop in a DVD movie with Dolby, THX, ect., the sound is quite amazing compared to some of the other audio sources available to us through the head unit. I think what is frustrating for some, is the sound quality being widely inconsistent with different media sources. The difference in sound doesn't bother me though. It's just another observation/opinion.

Another interesting (to me) observation is how accustomed we have become, over the years, to having sound direction mainly from the rear window area. Yet when we go to a concert we want the sound in our face, so to speak. Nobody turns there back to the stage for improved sound

My 2009XS is in the shop (fields Infiniti) getting the TCM reprogrammed for harsh 4 -> 3 downshift and getting window tint. The service loaner provided was a nice 2011 G37X with premium package and the sound on this car blows the sound on my 2009 out of the water. The 2011 has much more bass and much more volume -- what I would expect from a BOSE system and consistent with the 2003 G35 BOSE system that I mentioned in my original post.

My sub in the 2009 works because it can really be hear bass with rap music but for other music types it's hardly there.

Is there a way to adjust BOSE amplifier gain or any other way to adjust the system other than the bass and treble through the display? Was there a change in the audio system between 2009 and 2011 or is my system somehow off?

Thanks,
Brian

Small update - since almost all of my music comes from my iPod, my semi permanent work around to total lack of bass on my system is to use the bass bost equalizer setting on my iPod. The system now sounds normal and has full range. THerefore, I don't believe the issue is with my speakers.

Unless there is some kind of adjustment on my amp or some kind of secret adjustment on the head unit, I think I'm out of options.

Does anyone know if the head unit is directly swappable between 2009 and some 2010-2013? I have an early 2009 and am guessing the lack of bass issue was fixed in later years.

Thanks,
Brian

I have to say with the addition of a sub and unhooking the stock sub in my 2007 G35x, The bose system sounds amazing. I want people to also realize that alot of times you need to see where the source of music is coming from. If you downloaded a file on your ipod that has 128kbps its going to sound crappy and much of the different parts of the sound spectrum have been taken out. I do agree however that stock sub needs to go. When I took it out I have no problems with the bass being cut out low. I also have an Audio Source bass restorer that I LOVE! What a world of difference. However, the stock system killed my 1991 Lexus LS400 with premium Ponieer speakers in them.
