From my Amazon.com Review: The Escort 9500ix is an awesome radar detector @ an even better price! I stalked the internet for months waiting to jump on this 9500ix and Amazon came through on Nov. 30th when it was the "Deal-of-the-Day" @ $349 - Blue Display! Best price I've ever seen or heard for a brand new unit, so I'm more than happy with that aspect. I've only been using the detector for 3 days now but I am so far impressed with its capabilities, sensitivity, update-ability and ease of setup.

I started off by plugging the unit to my computer to check for updates and customize the user settings. I first was alerted that I needed to install the Microsoft .net framework software to use the Detector Software, but was guided step by step through this process and after a quick restart all is well. The unit firmware was up-to-date so all I had to update was the traffic cam/speed trap database. I left most of the user preferences at their default besides I switched the sensitivity to "Auto" which adjusts detection based on your speed, really cool to cut down on false alarms searching too far and wide during local driving. Beside that I changed the display mode to "Expert" which shows the individual threats, even several at a time and their respective strength. Oh and I switched the indicator to show just "A" instead of "Auto" to cut down on the visibility of the unit from outside the car.

As far as the install, I have the 9500ix hardwired and custom mounted below my rear view mirror. Search products MirrorMount & StealthCord if you are interested in a similar setup. So my initial impression of the unit once I started driving was "I love this thing!", I have been using radar detectors for about 15+ years now, since I started driving, and have been working my way up to a unit like this with several Cobra, Whistler, and Beltronics units along the way. This 9500ix is by far the most advanced and effective of them all, most recently coming from a Bel Pro RX55. Anyway, on the first drive the unit was alerting in the usual spots as well as many new ones on my regular drive to work. That showed me that the sensitivity is much greater than the others and by day 2 the unit was automatically logging and locking out these false alerts (automatic doors mostly) with GPS technology to never bother me with them again, sweet! Have yet to experience the speed trap or speed camera warnings from the database but I have no doubts in its performance.

My advice is search around, stalk this unit, and jump on it when the price is right, but realistically even at MSRP with even one solid "speeding" save this unit will pay for itself between the ticket and insurance points issued. We all find ourselves above the speed limit even if it's only 5-10 MPH once in a while; I know I learned the hard way years ago, so better safe than sorry. As far as Laser protection, forget it, if used they got your speed in 1/10 of a second so the detector is only going to tell you that there's a ticket coming, but for everyday lazy cops with radar traps, speed cameras and red light cameras a tool like the Escort 9500ix is invaluable. Based on the fact that you can update, customize and adjust this unit, it's been tried, tested and reviewed as a top performer for years, the guesswork is over, just add it to your cart and enjoy the ride for years to come

I used to drive 75,000 miles a year while sitting behind a late 90's vintage V-1. I'd constantly push my luck and average a ticket every 2-3 years. The range on the V-1 is second to none but on-off radar and laser will eventually get your ***.

In the last 5 years I've cut my driving down to 25,000 miles per year and just coincidentally at the same time quit using the V-1 and I think it was because it needed a suction cup for the mount.

During those 5 years, I've been stopped by the Ga State Patrol 5 times for speeding and received 4 warnings and 1 ticket.

Looking back to every time the GSP had written me a ticket in the distant past, they always asked what's on your dash? When you signed the ticket it always said "radar detector on dash".

It's my opinion I'm walking away from these speeding tickets because I have a good attitude and I no longer advertise to the po-po I like to speed because I run a radar detector.

YMMV

Happy Bear Hunting!

FWIW, a CB is ten times better than any radar detector ever will be when running the interstates. I always had one in my F-250's back when I was running 75,000 miles a year making sales calls across the south. You can't beat properly tuned CB swinging an illegal 60 watts. I'd run my CB now in the M, but I think a K30 antenna on the decklid might look a bit funny.
