2012 map update question
I got a letter in the mail stating that for 200$ I can update my maps to the 2012 maps.
I remember my bro downloaded maps and burned them to dvd and updated his himself in his Lexus IS.
Is something like this possible for our G37 or am I forced to swallow this unreasonably overpriced bullet and pay the dealer to update my maps?
thanks in advance.

the toyota/lexus system is disc based, ours is Hard Drive based. I had a burnt map disc in the tundra that worked great. I read that there are about 5 dvds in this map update and there is a "vin specific" code (supposedly) that you have to enter to get it to download to your system.
There was talk about breaking that code to figure out how it was assigned to each vehicle, but as far as I know it hasn't been done yet.

Other than a Map update, is the Navi system enhanced?? We use older Tom Toms for company vehicles and when the software is updated via local PCs, Extra Features are able to be added, such as, location of intersection Cameras (hey, this is NY !!! they are now all over the place), extra POIs, etc.
In fact, I purchased a new Tom Tom Via 1505 (I think that't the model no.) for $114.00 at Costco at Xmas time for my family members' use. The damn thing is Hands Down better than the Navi in my G37X. It has Lifetime Live Traffic (Blows XM Radio traffic away - that's why I dropped it), lifetime map updates, 5" screen, BT (if you don't have it), and Finds POIs by voice control: "Go to the nearest Starbucks"...for example.

Thanks for letting us know that the 2012 map update is available. I went to the navquest site and ordered the discs. I like the car, but the nav and phone leave a lot to be desired.
To use voice command with the phone, you have to voice tag each phone contact. My mustang does this automatically.
2011 g37 sedan/smokey quartz/premium/nav/18" wheels/ etc.

What year of Navteq road maps are Infiniti actually offering in the updates.
Google Maps and Mapquest is 2012 Navteq
Bing Maps appears to be 2010 Navteq info
![Dunno](https://www.myg37.com/forums/images/smilies/dunno.gif)
Garmin appears to always use the latest available road network.
