2010+ Navigation Updates Released!

Just noticed that the navigation update is finally released for 2010+ navigation. It includes 5 DVDs for $199! This is actually a bargain considering that we dont need to go to the dealership to update the maps, which would cost another $100.

Seems like Infiniti/Nissan implemented a license key system that is unique to each navigation unit ID. Doesnt seem like the update can be shared like in the older platforms.

dont think it does -- comes with a special coding... even at the dealership we have to place a code in order to install

Does the map update include a firmware update?

Nevermind, just read the instruction and looks like it can upgrade the firmware if needed.

Am installing the update for my 2011 G. Seems to be an easy process, if not long 90 minutes.

For 2010 and above vehicles here is how I think it works. The firmware update will work in all vehicles as no license key is asked for.

The map update discs are mass stamped, with I would believe, the same coding on all discs. As soon as disc 1 of the map update was inserted the license key was required on the display. The license key is a some type of hash consisting of your nav id and the coding on the discs. If one is smart enough to reverse engineer the hash coding scheme to derive the license key these discs can be used in any 2010+ vehicle.

The nav unit seems a bit faster after the update, but other than that I didn't notice any new options, but I didn't look very hard.

Contrary to the instructions, I didn't start the engine, used the ACC setting, and the update went through all four discs without issue. The car is relatively new so I thought the battery could handle it. The update did take about 90 minutes as the instructions said.

I'll find out when I start the car in the morning.

edit - If your harddrive ever needs to get replaced, this update would probably have to be reapplied. So I put the discs away in a safe location. The package consists of a sturdy plastic container with instructions inside and each disk is secured to it's own sleeve.

^^^^ the key comes with the receipt and in the confirmation email. You enter the key when you update the maps.

Dealer is only need for navi from 2008-2009. 2010+ navi is completely different and utilize DVDs to update maps.

Does my 2012 G coupe with with this already equipped? 2012 is not on the compatibility list. So I would assume my car came with it.

I'm wondering if one set of DVDs would work on multiple G37s.
I just ordered it, they wanted the NAV unit ID, for a key number during install.
