I'm planning a road trip this summer. It's a bit funny, I have this fancy schmancy overpriced gps in the car. Yet I still use a garmin to guide me along the route.

Specifically, I use their software (basecamp or mapsource) on the computer to create the route, add in stops (fuel, food, breaks, lodging, whatever), then upload to the gps to have it guide me. I suppose if the route was the quickest way from A to B, the built in gps would suffice. My routes usually go off the beaten path most times, and short of creating it myself, i've yet to come across a gps that would pick the same roads

Btw, this gps cost $106 from walmart - it's a refurbed model but appears new, just came in a white box. Also has lifetime maps and traffic. For anyone interested in this custom routes function, you need a 7xx/8xx/14xx series device (not sure if 13xx support custom multipoint routes). The newer models use something called trip planner which doesn't hand custom routes well (if at all).

CO/UT - Google Maps

Clearly not the fastest way to get to Provo from Denver
