on an 09 nav system? I have XM, but I cannot find out with certainty that the XM traffic service does this.

The garmin system, with their gps's is great alerting you in advance of current speed limit, fixed speed cameras, red light cameras, etc. $25 for a yearly subscription. But that's for Garmin. Seems simple enough, huh?

Going to the NavTeq website it says their system (our system?) does this, but it's impossible to get an answer from XM, and, I really don't think their techs and live chat people understand my question. All they spout is what their website says about traffic conditions.

Help please, and if their system does NOT, is there any workaround, short of getting a garmin gps?

XM does NOT offer free trials of their software, if you're outside of the three month new car free trial, at least that is what customer service (a real misnomer) says. A free trial would answer this question.

but I believe it requires loading their POI database onto the Nav unit and I don't know if that is possible on our (handicapped along w 'music box') Nav systems.

I suppose some might say, just slow down, but here in New orleans, those cameras are big revenue generators, and there are traps set up on streets with a 35mph limit, going down to 25 or 20, for a block or so, and then back up to 35, armed with a camera. Not talking about school zones here, but true speed traps. Each pop is $110.

I really like this car, but the nav music system is a poke in the eye, and if designed to be "safe," it doesn't because of its software limitations and design.

If you have a smart phone, the 'waze' app is a user contributed gps/navigation program. Thus far from the driving here in chicago area, it has correctly identified 99% of the red light cameras i've driven past.

XM does NOT offer any kind of alerting system

i havent heard of anything that can be loaded into our navi systems that can do this.

your best bet is to use Waze or trapster...both are mobile apps.

I have WAZE and use it, built in would be better and safer.

If you don't want to rely on a smartphone or user generated database, you could invest in an Escort 9500ix radar detector. It has GPS and will alert to cameras/traps.

Awhile back I got a survey from XM asking what features I would like. One of the feature choices was Red light camera alerts. This was about a year or so ago. Hopefully they are going to put this in the future..

I wish they'd ask me. I've spoken to them, written them, chatted with them and everyone I speak with sounds like they're hearing it for the first time and I can tell, when I hang up, the issue dies right there.

Just to echo some of the previous posters, the Waze app is very accurate and totally free in my experience.

I agree.
WAZE is a fine product, but the redlight cameras and speed cameras here in New Orleans are pervasive and can really sneak up on you. WAZE requires cell phone power and if you leave it on, it will drain your battery. And it requires taking your eyes off the road and playing with the cell phone while underway. And it doesn't "ding ding" with a graphic on the nav screen telling you "fixed camera ahead 35mph" and then ding when you're beyond it. That's what the Garmin does and it updates itself automatically.

What I do use it, WAZE, for is to scope out my route before leaving. It just does not do what the Garmin product does.

What version of waze you running? I have the most current for android, and it will warn you at least a good block of a redlight or speed camera ahead. It gives a verbal warning, something like "redlight camera ahead"

That's what the Garmin service does and what I am seeking.
I can't find the screen with the version number, but it is current according to the iTunes app store. Using it on an iPhone 3GS.

Can the voice alerts be played through the radio, over the music, like the current Nav system does?
I hate wires running all over, but if it does that with a suitable patch cord it will be worth it until Infiniti catches up with the inexpensive Garmins.

As an add-on to our nav system or XM, there is nothing to get.
It doesn't exist, it seems for our cars.
NavTeq makes it. Not available to us, it seems, via XM Traffic.
But, Garmin has it.
Is this more Infiniti Nanny State that keeps us from loading mp3s on the MusicBox to "help with piracy issues?" Is Infiniti again protecting us from ourselves?
It is evident that it is NOT an illegal service; it is a cheap and very functional add-on for Garmin. Come On, Mt Fuji!
