I ended up solving the lack of bass on my 2009 by turning up the bass on my iPod. Since 90%+ of my music is played through my iPod, I am now happy with my BOSE system.

Both service loaners I have driven (one 2012 and one 2013 I believe had great sounding systems. Maybe it's my car, maybe it's all 2009? Don know.

Although I was not particularly happy with the sound of my 2008 G37S initially (it really seemed to lack bass) All I did was add a 10in Kicker shallow mount sub to the trunk and now I think it sounds great! the Bose system already has great Treble/Mids and with an aftermarket sub it really rounds out the sound

the system is ok for stock. I found it lacking in the midrange dept. I was hoping to be happy with the bose on wheels system but I'm somewhat of an audiophile and to discerning ears, its pretty terrible. the midrange is drowned out by overly compensating lows and highs and is lifeless. My music collection is almost all lossless and alot of my live music vocals, mid bass, etc would be distant. I ended up ripping the whole thing out and putting in my old system, over 8k worth of equipment lol. I put Dynaudio 10s in the doors and with dyn 3" mids and 1" tweets run by a 6 channel 100 x 4 and 200 x 2 tru technology super billet amp and a zapco dsp6, all run active with time alignment. My low end is a 12" dyn esotar sub and 750.2 zapco amp. I was even able to use the stock locations and its stealth. check this out lol

awesome. they are used by a lot of audiophiles especially in free air door applications. it's fast and has a good amount of kick. I don't even need a sub but since I had it I'm getting it installed anyway.

Bose doesn't believe there is truly a midrange ... that's why from day one they have small high frequency drivers and their muddy sounding thumpers. Even their flagship speakers (901's) are a bunch of smaller drivers in a ported enclosure and they come with a EQ.

I've had my 2011 G37 sedan (equipped with the Bose SOW) for about a month now, and I have to agree with those of you who are underwhelmed by the sound quality. Specifically, the lack of bass.

What I have noticed, though, is that the sound quality of the Bose system sounds significantly better with the car parked and the engine off. Under these conditions, the audio quality is actually pretty good, with decent bass response. But unfortunately, this does us no good while driving.

It seems like Bose did not take road/engine noise into consideration when setting up the equalization of the SOW sound system. That's a shame because the system probably could have sounded much better.

The Bose in my G37coupe sounds better than the Bose in my C6 GS vert, even with the top up on the vert, but that's not saying much.
Part of the problem is, a car is a crumby noisy space to really listen to music properly anyway, and the smaller the cab the worse it gets. EG; the sedan probably has better sound than the coupe because of the greater space and ability to move the speakers further away from the driver.
That being said, I'm not a big fan of "The Bose sound" period, I think muddy is the probably the best single word that comes to mind.
IMHO it's better than an average basic car system, but definitely not what I would describe as high quality sound, even for a car...

Really? It introduces all sorts of phasing problems and makes my low-mids nonexistent.

I'd recommend turning it off for more accurate sound reproduction. Its still not perfect this way. Just a bit better.

I'm not sure if you are familiar with this app called Power Amp, but I use it and your able to control highs mediums and lows to whatever you please. With that And the system bass turned up, its perfect for me with no distortion... ig the people complaining of the system never played around with the EQ

I've played with the EQ and I have gotten the system decent enough for me. I used to think the Bose was fine until I got my Xterra Pro-X with the Fosgate system, MUCH better mids and base than the Bose. But, it's a car, with road noise, etc ... not expecting audiophile caliber stuff either.

I'm not 19 either so I'm not expecting base so deep and loud that it loosens the screws in the car. I like a nice pronounced base that rolls off quickly and doesn't interfere.
