Any1 done a Nav/stereo upgrade? (pics?)advice?

FINALLY!!!I got my G. I bought a 2008 G 6 speed but for the price with the miles I wanted (25k) I couldn't afford the nav. Now that I found the color combo I wanted- what are my options for nav and upgraded stereo? Has anyone done this and lived to tell abt it? Any pictures. I saw a previous thread with someone who was selling a stock console set w nav. Is it possible to use this on my car?
Any suggestions/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Stereo upgrades- yes. Add OEM nav to a non nav car- no.

This horse has been beaten to death. I'm sure it can be done, but no one has completed the project and told us about it.

As for the stereo, if you want a true upgrade, go aftermarket. Also, how much do you wanna spend? The car can only take what your wallet can endure.

I toyed with the idea with my 07 coupe. But it doesn't make sense. It'd have been cheaper if you had just bought a nav equipped car. I'd get a Garmin integrator to integrate with your screen.

if you want to add nav you'll either need to go the carputer route like myself or add the stand along garmin GVN unit and run it through the aux video input. here are some reference threads:

Installed Garmin Carputer and Touch Screen Overlay in Non-Nav Model - G35Driver

No factory navigation? - Here's a Navi alternative - G35Driver

don't hesitate to hop onto the g35 forum and PM us if you have any questions!

cheers!

nav is nice to have but I think i've used it like 5-6 times in the last year I've had it. I also almost never use the touch screen for anything other than nav.

My GF's $99 magellan gives free traffic updates and even tells you to reroute due to accidents. It's one of those grass is greener things. Get a decent nav and keep it in the glove box.

The backup camera on the other hand..... LOVE IT

Remmy, what did you use to convert the DVI into RCA?

jumpoff - sorry i've been MIA lately so i didn't see your post. i first used a sewell pc-to-tv converter box which is usb powered, then i went up to a AItech product which was only marginally better. the sewell boxes are like $20 on amazon, maybe $30 if i recall. some netboxes and computers have the RCA out built in or can do RGB over DVI (depending on the graphics card).

feel free to PM me here or over at g35driver.com if you have any questions for me!

to be fair cruzmisl does have a good point. it's nice and easy to keep a nav unit in the glovebox (i admittedly even keep my 5 year old garmin c320 in the glovebox if i need it in a pinch!) then you have it when you want it, and you can add xm traffic updates which is an awesome feature. so unless you really want the stock look that bad i'd consider it.....
