2011 G37 - iPod integration - My Experience
This past Wednesday, I bought a 2011 G37 Sedan with premium package and factory nav. One of the first stops I made was to Best Buy so I could get an iPod for the new ride! My 2007 G35 that I traded in didn't have the iPod integration, so I was excited
Anyway, I bought the iPod 160GB Classic for the car and was disappointed with the performance of it. It lagged when switching tracks and if I skipped more than 3 tracks in a row, the Classic iPod would take a couple of seconds before playing the next song.. then I could to hit the next track button for 3 more songs and have them start playing instantly when I switched tracks, but once again, the 4th song would take a couple of seconds before start playing. It's like the Classic iPod had "slower" processing power or something.
Also, with the Classic iPod, when I shut the car off and didn't turn it back on for 30 minutes the iPod wouldn't automatically start playing where I left off. I mean, everything would come back on, but I'd have to hit the previous or next track button to "jump start" the iPod into actually playing music. It's like when I turned the car on, the Classic iPod wouldn't receive the "play" command or something. It would work fine if I didn't keep the car off for more the several minutes.
So I went to Best Buy today, took back the Classic and picked up a 32GB iTouch... ALL problems solved!
Tracks start playing instantly when I go to "next track" or "previous track". Also the interface is faster too. With the Classic iPod, sometimes when I hit the next track, it wouldn't register with the iPod and I would have to press the button again. The iTouch doesn't seem to have this problem.
Maybe the iTouch has more processing power or something? Maybe it's the different operating system between the two iPods??
Anyway, just wanted to pass along my findings.
I didn't try out the latest generation of the Nano, so I don't know well that works with the G37 integration.
So far, my only "gripe" (if you can call it that) is that when using the steering wheel controls, the "up" button is the next track and the "down" button is "previous", but on the radio console, the down button is "next" and the up button is "previous". Seems to be a little inconsistent.
Other than that, I think Infiniti did a great job with the iPod integration in the new cars!

Congratulations on your new purchases! I'm sure you will be happy with the car.
... I had the same "gripe" when I had my factory steering wheel. I would constantly switch to the previous track when I was trying to switch to the next. Oh well... Things could be worse.
Enjoy!

I have the same lag with my ipod classic. I just assumed it was because the integration is slow. I get a nice lag occasionally with other functionality. Good to know that the ipod touch doesn't have that lag. Too bad the 64GB touch won't fit my entire music collection

I have a last generation Nano that I bought refurbished from apple to keep in the car. It works great except that I had to get an interface cable adapter as the 2008 model G interface will not charge the newer generation Nanos. It works great with the adapter.

I have an iPod Touch and an iPhone 3GS. Both lag when changing songs. It's quite annoying.
Oh yea, and I have that same grip posted above. What were the audio guys smoking that day?

Those who have lag with the Classic iPod and not the Touch is most likely because of the fact that the classic users a Hard drive w/ buffer, whereas the Touch and Nano are flash based, so there's no need to spin it up to skip around.

Quick question, your 2011 g37 has USB connection or a different specific cord for the ipod? .. i just got a 2011 g37xs coupe and when i plug in my usb cord and my ipod, the nav displays "check usb or ipod"
Umm anyone have this issue?
