HOWTO: 2010/11 G37 Navi - How to play XVID files

Hey guys,

Just picked up my 2010 G37S 6speed coupe with Navi (traded in my problematic 2007 G35 Sedan journey).. I wanted to contribute to the community (unless this has already been posted!!)

So i noted that the car actually plays divx files from both the DVD player and using a USB key. Unfortunately most of my files are in XVID format, which the navi cannot read. Well there is HOPE!!

I learned this way back when i had my 2006 300C hemi, I used to have a Pioneer AVIC-D3 navi unit that only played DIVX files. Well the folks over at AVIC411 had the solution on how to play XVID files on DIVX players, without having to convert the file!!

Here is the link below:
AVIC411.com • View topic - XVID playback CONFIRMED on AVIC-D3

Essentially all you need to do is run the little program fourCC, and change the codec parameters to read XVID and DX50, and voila it played perfectly on my stock NAVI!!

I actually google searched some different programs that will allow for a BATCH change instead of doing one file at a time, but this should suffice anyways!.

Good luck and i hope that helps some people!

ED

it reads from the USB as well? 100% sure? thats interesting.

I know the video gets locked out while playing a DVD and driving, but does it happen to the USB as well?

The lockout happens on both USB and DVD.

I and guarantee you can play XVID/DIVX videos on both DVD and on the USB (on my usb i have a 100gig 2.5" drive as well as a 16gig USB Key, and both works).

FYI - In another thread they said the maximum was 60gigs allowed. THIS IS NOT TRUE!!! the system recognized my 100gig drive with NO ISSUES!..

As mentioned before you MUST USE FAT32. Windows does not allow you to format FAT32 at those sizes. You need to google a program that lets you format FAT32.

Since you have a 100 gig drive. Try filling it to capacity and see if it still recognizes all the content.

Hey guys - quick question. I'm picking up my 2010 g37 sport/nav this weekend and see a lot of threads about playing movies. Other than making a change (that we aren't allowed to talk about), how many of you actually watch movies while in park? I don't see this feature being of much use to me b/c if I'm in my car, I'm normally driving....

Hi, thanks for the information.

I tried this using Nic's Mini AviC FourCC Changer. But it's not really working for me... If I want my XviD to play on my navi, how would you setup for conversion?

Nevermind. I got it to work.

Now, would anyone know how to play movies while the car is on the move? No, absolutely not for me. But, it'll definitely impress my wife in the passenger seat...

I'm sorry, but what do you mean?

I do have 2011 G37 sedan, and it played the movies fine... I just changed the fourCC to DX50. BTW, I'm using USB to play movies. I haven't tried playing movies with DVD.

Guys, i am glad to help some folks!

I have the DVD filed up with 8 gigs of videos, and a 16gig USB key filled for more videos, plus a 100gig portable HD for spare videos.

I really wish infiniti didnt delete the AV inputs, as i would gladly rather have AV inputs over the stupid USB port.

I miss my 2007 G37 sedan becuase i was able to stream all my movies through my iphone to play youtube, movies, and my video files on my server..

Thanks for the original post. I was able to convert the file and play DVD (with ebrake on). A word of caution though - release the ebrake after you're done with DVD! I didn't realize until the warning sign quickly popped up.

U guys are so lucky to have USB compatibility and the higher res screens on the 2010s!!! For 08-09 we have less res and as of now I am watching vids very annoyingly by either connecting a portable dvd player via AV cables or converting vids to mp4/h264 to my ipod and connecting iPod to AV input :-/ lame!
