Compact Flash Limitations

I have been using a 16 GB Compact Flash for 3 months. I create a folder for each artist then put all the songs from that artist into that folder. I have 20 folders and I noticed that when I added the 21st I do not see it. Is there any published limitations? I am thinking that I should have only purchased an 8GB because every time I try adding more music the car can't see it anyway. I am using only .mp3 format and I only use 320k bit rate, that I have converted from .flac.

I guess I will try bringing the quality down and see if that will help. I am curious if there are a number of files, folders limitations though.

There is a 500 song limit per card. It wont read anything after that. Not sure about folders.

wow, that was fast

Very nice. I guess I wasted money then. I will go buy another 8GB or maybe an IPod.

You likely could fit everything on a 4GB even.

Look at it this way, at least you didn't buy a 32GB card like I did.

lol, sorry to hear

that is funny but I want to go get an ipod now. once I parse through all these posts... so frustrating. They should just post... Buy this ipod. you can watch video, charge, and it will power on and off with the car. Not buy any cables because my 09 with nav came with one.

LOL yeah you are screwed with the 512 track limit, I was also one of those suckers that bought a 32GB flash card thinking who needs an ipod.

Bought a couple of 4GB ones instead and they worked fine but I got tired of card limitations and swapping cards, so I just got a 7th gen ipod classic 160GB. Works perfect with the standard cable, not sure about the video though (don't need it ATM).

My wife just picked up an 09 vert yesterday and I was debating getting an iPod, iTouch, or iPad for it...I'd be real interested to hear in your findings.

Thanks for all the CF heads-ups, I was just hunting for some cards for it. Think I'll stick to some cheap 2Gb now.

iPod Classic. Works the best from what I've heard.

And I've had no issues with my Classic in my '10 sedan.

I wonder if a USB flash drive in the 2010 would have a limitation on the number of songs like the CF card in the older cars.

Wouldn't surprise me if it did have those same limitations. Someone find out and prove me wrong!

Because of the limitations, I went and got the IPod Touch 64GB. Sound Quality is very imporatant to me so I have been converting all my CD's to Apple Lossless. To be upfront I can tell that the IPOD vs Compact Flash with the same audio, I feel that the compact flash sounds very slightly better. Sounds crazy but I have tested this several times. The IPOD has an EQ and I played with that to compensate but then every albumn is different. I have 1400 losselss audio on my Ipod and I am not really that impressed when I comes to older albumns. When I play the actual CD it sounds best overall. I have had to reset my IPOD once because it would not connect to the car after a large sync of music. I wish that Infiniti would flash update this limitation which I am sure they could so I could just save money from the IPOD. I am considering just getting a few 4GB cards and just marking them by Genre.
