Newbie member and owner of a 2009 G37x sedan. Our car came with the standard 2 key remotes. My mom also owns a G37 and doesn't need her extra key fob, whereas we could use a third for our daughter. I think these things are expensive. What's involved with reprogramming her extra key remote to work on our car?

I think it’s unwise to go with only one fob. All kinds of bad things could happen, like loosing the single fob and then having none to start the car; a dead fob battery for a locked car where again you couldn’t head to a store to replace it (they only last a few years at most); locking the one fob in the trunk with no way now to retrieve it; etc. There have been numerous threads on this subject.

Having said that, surely your dealer can reprogram an existing fob.

Good idea to keep it paired to your mom's car. But if you insist on pairing it to your car, bring all of them to the dealership with you. They need to do all of them at once.

it takes 30 minutes for us to even program a new key at the dealership with the consult tool.
