Question Those with large music libraries on ipod for G.

For those of you with large music libraries that they put on their ipod how do you deal with finding certain artist/songs on the go? Takes forever to scroll through.

I have over 80gigs of music stored on an ipod classic that I am going to keep in the car at all times.

My idea was to create a smart playlist w/ itunes for each letter of the alphabet. So if I want to play an artist that begins with "T" for example, I can just go to playlists and scroll through ABCDE.....T.

Any other ideas?

An additional way is to use keyword "Genre" to search the forum for another way to sort music. I use your ABC playlist suggestion with Genre, and smart playlists. Works well.

honestly, I just put it on "shuffle all" and let it play. It leaves room for improvement but it's the easiest way to listen to all my music with the least headache. If I am in the mood for certain types of music I will go to "genre" like Boomer said, but leaving it on shuffle is the easiest way for me to do it.

i also have a ton of music (about 110 gigs) on my classic ipod and hated the interface. so decided to go buy a 8 gig nano for car/gym use and just update it regularly. best purchase ive made in a while to be honest lol. the playlist idea by alphabet does seem like a great idea tho

I did the smart playlists, but when I go to playlists and select a letter, it lists all the songs by every artist that begins w/ that letter. This isn't really helpful, I was hoping it would sort by artist when you clicked on playlist. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm working on the genre route now.

I'm not sure if this is what boomer-bob is saying, but i have about 100 gig too and this is what i did. Took about 20 minutes.

For every artist that starts with the letter "A" change the genre to "A"
For every artist that starts with the letter "B" change the genre to "B"
Etc.

That way you can jump by letter to whatever artist. Hope this helps!

i used to do that, but i found myself switching songs for 20 minutes on a 30 minute drive!

buying the G has prompted me to make playlists...so i made about 7 or so playlists based on genres and it's a lot easier to use.

i only have about 10 gigs tho

I've got 260 Gigs of music and don't even bother trying to get it into the G. Wish we could just have a USB connector instead and have a USB hard drive hidden somewhere.

I checked out the DVD player but it doesn't have a USB interface. I already have a DVD player with remote control that shows on the nav screen at all times, but never use it. It doesn't have USB either.
